We visited Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk, CT. I was surprised and happy to see many allergy signs posted throughout the museum. In many of the rooms, I saw signs that said, "Please keep this area food free and safe for all visitors."

Then by their cafe area, they had a sign that said, "Allergy Notice We are aware and sensitive to potentially life threatening food allergies faced by some of our visitors. In recognition of this danger, please wash hands after eating and discard all food and drink."

I did not go into the cafe, so I don't know exactly what kind of food they sell there, but I was told by a friend that there was no peanut butter in the cafe.

Loved seeing the signs....and not even a contact reaction in my dd today

It is a great place! I used to take the little girl I babysat there all the time. They also have an amazing playground. I always felt safe eating lunch there as they made the food right there and they made nothing with peanuts.

Sent them a letter. This was the reply:

Lori,
I can't begin to tell you how much your email meant to me and to all of us that work so hard to keep Stepping Stones a fun and safe place for children. I am so pleased that xxxxxxx had a great time during her visit and that you felt comfortable while you were here. We began our efforts to raise awareness about allergies shortly after opening six years ago and I am pleased that you saw indications that we have made progress.

I wanted to let you know that we are planning a new exhibit that will open in November called Healthyville. This interactive exhibit is part of a four-year, statewide children's health initiative to promote wellness and healthy behavior in children and families. While the primary exhibit topics are nutrition, fitness, hygiene and safety additional topics of interest including allergies will be addressed through activities within exhibit areas and related educational programs. Please let me know if you are interested in learning more.

Let me know the next time you are planning a visit, I'd love to have the opportunity to say hello and to meet xxxxxxx!

All the best,
xxxxxx
