Hi everyone!
I am sooooo nervous. My kids are starting a new school tomorrow. We just moved to Omaha, NE. My kids are in 4th and 2nd grade and both are severe pa. My old school, after a long struggle, finally got it. Of course it helped that over the course of four years seven children with pa came to the school. We had a peanut free lunch table, etc... Now I find myself starting all over.
I will not act nervous in front of my children, they are nervous enough. I am meeting with their teachers and principal tomorrow at nine a.m.
I could use your thoughts on what approach to take and what to tell them. Help!!!!
No advice...just keeping my fingers crossed for you!
NOPEANUTSALLOWED, how did your meeting at the school go?

No peanuts, I would start with a positive attitude.
What did you have for your children in their last school? Did you use a 504 plan?
If so, I would try to implement the same 504 into this school. Ask them if they have ever delt with PA children before. How severe are your children? touch sensitive? airborne sensitive?
Explain exactly how sensitive they are. There is a grest deal of information here that you can supply them with. With peanut allergys on the rise, they may have dealt with this already.
The one thing that I have found in this area of the country where I live, most of the parents are very lax about the allergy. No real plans set up. Just an epi pen in the nurses office.
Do you have an epi trainer for the school so that they can teach the staff? Are you a working mom or a sahm? If your a sahm, offer to come in a volunteer your time at the school. I would also find out if they have a PTO or PTA and get involved so they understand your childrens plight.
Hope everything goes well for you. Please keep us informed on your meeting. Well wishes for you.
Keep the faith,
