My son is PA and Asthmatic. At the urging of my son's Immunologist we went to an Asthma Fair that the local hospital was hosting. The Asthma Fair had booths from various vendors and entertainment for the kids. Because many Asthmatics also have some food allergies, the fair also had a few food allergy booths.

Now here is where the stupidy comes in....

Right next to the food allergy booth was a stage where performers were performing a skit and healthy eating. The skit involved making a "healthy" snack. After they made the healthy snack they passed out samples. Guess what one of the ingredients in the snack was?

We of course pointed out this problem to the person responsible organizing the event. After the initial anger emotion subsided, we were able to laugh about it.

No surprises here, I mean, I don't know. What could a "healthy snack" have been? Is it different for different individuals? LTFA can include a variety of items, yes?

You have a point there, Mommabear. So many people can be allergic to different things that "healthy" to some could mean "deadly" to others. But, being an Asthma and Food Allergy Fair, they should have done their research first and not picked something from the top 8 food allergens, with peanuts topping that list!

Sounds like we are on the same page?

I mean, I guess using peanuts wouldn't surprise me any more than let's say milk, egg, soy, fish, wheat, etc.

Was it an "Asthma Fair" or a "Asthma and Food Allergy Fair"? I mean, was the Food Allergy section a "side"?

Also, is the "Major Allergens" list listed in any particular order? Don't know myself.

Wondering why there was a skit about "healthy food" anywhooooooooooo.

Pete, yes, well, I can see where you *could* get a laugh out of this. Some times it's either you laugh or you cry, I don't know. I'm glad that you mentioned it to the organizer though - DUH.

I would have thought that the eight major food allergens would have been excluded from a skit on healthy eating. We all know that healthy eating *can* be done without consuming different foods and you know what? On the top of my list I think PEANUTS would be the easiest thing to avoid and yet still eat in a healthy way (not negating that yes, peanuts do have health benefits).

Big DUH on their part. I'm glad you pointed it out. Maybe it won't happen next year?

Best wishes!
