Sausage, etc...

I don't eat sausage, bratwurst, pepperoni, etc but my sons like it. How do you determine if it is a good sausage or which brand of any of the above to get? Does anyone have any suggestions for some peanut/nut/seed free brands/apple free brands? Are any healthier than any other brand?

I don't know about sausage but my son has eaten Hormel(spelling?)pepperoni without problems and he is peanut/tree nut/seeds allergic.
