Rich Products Corporation Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Walnuts in Yellow Cake
Buffalo, N.Y. (SafetyAlerts) - Rich Products Corporation is recalling 140 cases of J.W. Allen Yellow Cake because it may contain walnuts, which are not declared on the product ingredient label. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to walnuts run the risk of serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume products containing walnuts.
The recalled Yellow Cake product was sold through Publix Super Markets, Inc. in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina between Wednesday, October 3, 2001 through Friday, October 5, 2001.
Publix Super Markets sold the product in their Bakery Department as 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full size sheet cakes.
The product was also sold in the Deli Department as strawberry shortcakes and decorated individual parfaits in the Deli and Bakery Departments.
The problem was discovered when a few walnuts were found on processing equipment following the production of the yellow cake on 9/15/01. A small portion of the lot inadvertently was shipped.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
Consumers allergic to walnuts, who have purchased these yellow cake products from Publix Super Markets in Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama, on Wednesday, October 3, 2001 through Friday, October 5, 2001, are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
