I was appaled and angry to find that Pillsbury Ready to Bake Sugar Cookies contain Walnut ,Macadamia Nut and Peanut flours!!

Is anyone else aware of this??

Their ready to bake sliced cookies do not list this warning.

I think this is very dangerous for the parents that will bake these cookies and bring them to class, share etc and they contain these deadly ingredients.

I have e-mailed General Mills, anyone else aware of this??

This is exactly why I do not want my ds to eat anything at school, I am going to try & find these cookies here & I will call as well. This annoys me as why does a sugar cookie need all these nut ingredients.....oh please, tell me why? Do they just STATE those flours, instead of a 'may contain...' statement.

Maybe they dont CONTAIN them, but they run on the same line, kwim?

I find it hard to believe, but I'm not completely burying my head, that they actually USE those flours in sugar cookies...

(We dont buy those types of cookies, anyhow.. So Im not much help on it... Do they have an allergen page on their website?)

Jason

Jason,

They ACTUALLY contain all the various nut flours in the cookie!!

I am holding on to this package to show school and others why this is so very serious!!

I wrote to them, they actually referred me to FAAN so that they could help me dealy with my childs PN/TN allergies- cany you believe it!!

I am thinking about contacting FAAN to see if they have any influence over products like this!

I know that Nabisco adds "peant flour" as the final item in the ingredient label for some of their cookies (Mint Oreos? etc) as they are not made on a dedicated nut-free line so this is added as a warning to customers that the product is not safe.

I actually posted this warning on this site when I first joined. I was at my sons school for his Valentines Day party and they were making Ready to bake cookies by Pilsbury and for some odd reason I decided to read the label. ( I have used these cookies in the past and they have not had any such warning). When I called Pillsbury I was told by a Customer service rep that there must have been a high customer demand for the added peanut macadamia nut and walnut flour or they would not have changed the recipe. I e-mailed Pilsbury and recieved a (pardon the pun) "cookie cutter" response that they would look into it and they would send me coupons. Naturally I fired back a less than friendly response to thier coupons and I then heard from one of the higher ups in General Mills (which owns Betty Crocker and Pillsbury). He was sorry for my worries and he would look into the situation. Needless to say I have heard nothing but the reality is they have definatley changed the recipe to include Peanut, macadamia and walnut flour. It states it on the package. Other types of Pillsbury sugar cookies do not have the warning which makes no sense. For the life of me I can not understand why you need to add nut flour to a sugar cookie. I was told it was to enhance the flavor. Whatever!!!! I am steering clear of Pillsbury products!!! They are not safe and no one gives you the same answer if you call there. Very scary!!!

And people wonder why I wanted to send my childhood Pillsbury Dough Boy with an expired Epi stuck in him to Pillsbury (now it's General Mills, but still).

Best wishes!

I would never buy pre-made cookie dough. Too big of a risk.

What about making the sugar cookies from scratch as they are probably the easiest cookie to bake.

Did the recipe for these cookies change recently? I have never seen nut flours listed on these products and we do buy/use them with no problem. Maybe the issue is specific to Canada? I am in the U.S.

No this is in the US too. The recipe has not changed for the cut and bakes just for the "ready to bakes" on the tray that you simply take out of the box and bake. I usually make mine from scratch too but my son's school was making a special project when I found out about the nut flours in Pillsbury. My mom used to make him the cut and bakes but no more. I dont trust Pillsbury. Too risky. And you never get the same answer twice.

I am still confused as we use/buy the place and bake cookies often and I have never seen nut flours in these - in fact, my mother bought the easter ones to make with my dd today and I had her read all the ingredients, etc. There is nothing listed either in the ingredients or on the warning. Is the claim that they use these products and make no mention of them whatever?

Bootsy,

I was referring to the Ready to Bake Sugar Cookies- the ingredients are listed and the warning is there!!

I saw the Easter Ready to Bake and they were fine. Also, the ready to slice cookies that are also sugar cookies are fine.

That is why is am so outraged that in the ready to bakes they put these ingredients in. I am not sure why it was necessary!!

I am also in Calif. and it was here!

Gwen,
Sorry for my confusion, I have never used the ready to bake sugar cookies other than the slice and bakes. Thanks so much for the clarification - I wasn't doubting this, just trying to get as specific information as possible. This is very scary indeed.
