reaction to pecan or pecan pollen?

My daughter Audrey has reacted twice, very rapidly, with hives and swelling after being in my parents back yard. They have 2 large pecan trees and pecans are all over. She has only touched them on these occasions, not ingested. She has not had any other reactions to anything. Her SPT to pecan was negative, I am still waiting on her RAST result.
The nurse at the allergist's office told me that there is a difference between pecans on trees that are outside, and pecans that are eaten. She said that she is allergic to the pollen of the pecan that would also be found on the surrounding leaves and such, but not of the pecan itself.
For those of you that are TNA, does anyone have specific problems with pecan? Can you actually EAT pecans?
Thank you in advance for any advice/help you may have...

(P.S. I did do a search to see if I found this addressed already. I have also searched on the 'net and there isn't much info.)
