My boyfriends roommate has a really sweet, sweet dog. He's a gorgeous, red/orange colored pitpull, with big gold eyes, the most worried face ever, and he *loves* me...
And yesterday I had a reaction to the dog licking my legs and my hand! I busted my leg open on some kind of wilderness adventure LOL and the dog kept licking around the injury.
I didn't think about it really-- Im not allergic to dogs- but thennn I got itching and burning and instantly broke out in hives and started feeling kind of funny all over....
I started looking for a DVD no this shelf, with my face INCHES from an open, big, red, plastic container, and within a minute, my throat started feeling funny, and my eyes were watering... Then I noticed that red bucket were different dog biscuits... and one of the five flavors- PEANUT BUTTER!
We left. I took Benadryl and was fine, obviously It was so disappointing. My boyfriend is really concious of this stupid allergy and his old roommate didn't care much for peanuts so it was easy to have a 99% nut free house (roommate had some may contains around but it was never a problem at all).
The new roommate has all kinds of nuts all the time, pad thai, vietnamese food a lot, PB and Nutella, etc. Of course it is his house and I can't ask him to change it-- I know he already goes out of his way to clean it up quite well for me (I was wandering why I kept having itching deep in my throat/ears when I was there sometimes-- it turns out it had always been after peanut-covered food had been reheated just before I got there!!!) My boyfriend labelled his jam NO PEANUT BUTTER for fear someone would contaminate it with his roomates stuff and kill me by mistake... Oh goodness. I don't know if thats helpful and positive or totally negative thinking LOL.
Oh well. I am going to go eat Betty Crocker cake now since apparently it is safe on these boards and I have some left over from a friends birthday (we made it but I wasnt sure I could eat it... But now I need chocolate at 9:30 AM! LOL)
Yikes, I am so glad you are okay. Not that I am happy you reacted, but I am grateful to get a *real feeling* description from you, my 6yr old can't quite describe(or explain) what is going on yet. The throat and ears itching, that was interesting.
BUt I worry about dog biskits now, we never buy any, our dog can't/won't eat them anyways....but like at the park the other day, some old guy walked up and gave my son a dog biskit to feed the dog he was walking!!! I know they mean well, but that could have been so dangerous....why can't people *ASK* first, come-on!!!!????
Hope you're feeling better, hope the cake hit the spot too!!!

Actually when I first got *my* dog, come to think of it, one of his first boxes of treats had PB in them... Which I never thought about at all until I got a huge rash from his licking my leg (again...! Whats with this, hey? LOL)... right after he had eaten one. It didn't do much to make me like him at the time, because he was a rotten little brat of a lunatic puppy LOL...
Dogs will eat almost any food product, so I think we could skip the nuts. I am so tempted to throw away all the biscuits and have the BF clean out the container, so I can fill it up with safe ones... Ha ha ha.
