My NFA Husband ate a Sunbutter cookie I had made and within an hour his lips were double in size. His tongue was swelling and he was covered in hives and itching all over. He asked me to take him to the E.R. because his breathing was getting labored. They treated him with Two epi injections,a shot of steroids. We left with an epi-pen for him to take to work and a oral steroid for five days.
Never planned on My DH being the one to need the epi-pen. He is ok now but they are sending us to get allergy testings.
He eats sunflower oil in lots of things but hadn't eaten pure sunbutter before.
My DS who is PA ate them yesterday with now problems. Go figure!

Would that be MFA?

This thread was alarming to me because I trust Sungold Sunbutter to be PA safe.

Which Sunbutter? So this is probably because your DH is now allergic to sunflower seeds or another ingredient I'm guessing.

Glad he's okay now!

I buy the brand Sunbutter and my PA/EA son will not eat it. That is just terrible when you think you are feeding your child something safe and a reaction happens. I am so sorry and I hope he is better!

Hello everyone,
My hubby has never eaten direct sunflower seed products. He drinks a ton of milk so I don't think that was it. He is doing ok today. Our daughter eats alot of sunbutter in her lunch for school. It has been a wonderful replacement for the peanut butter. It was the Sunbutter brand. It is very good to eat but our PA ds still won't try it by itself either. He has had it in the cookies is all.

Just curious which variety of the Sunbutter he ate & what the other ingredients are in that version?

Some of the Sunbutters are purely sunflower & some have other ingredients (sweetners, etc.)

Just wondering!
