I am hoping to get around to making some pumpkin bread/muffins during the holidays. I have OnePie brand canned filling. Is it safe for a peanut/dairy allergic person? The ingredients just say "prepared pumpkin". My mum said that she thought that it contained only cooked pumpkin; you'd ordinarily have to precook the pumpkin flesh to make the pie the "old-fashioned" way. I tried to get OnePie on the web, but can't find them. Can anyone enlighten me?
As Amy stated, there are two types. One type is just pureed pumpkin to which you add your own milk, egg, and spices. Then there is the other type that is ready to go to make a pie and you don't really need to add to it. If you are concerned about allergies, you would want to go with the first type.

Thanks to you both. My canned pumpkin requires adding evaporated milk and spices to use as pie filling, so I think I'm okay.
Margaret,
I too was wondering the same thing about the Onepie brand of pumpkin! But since it didn't list anything in the ingredients other than "prepared pumpkin", I assumed it must just be the cooked pumpkin and nothing else in it. I have used it several times to make desserts that my PA daughter has eaten with no problems.

I'm not familiar with that brand, but pumpkin pie filling usually refers to a premixed combo of pumkin, evaporated milk and spices. Just plain pumkin is usually referred to as "solid pack pumpkin".
Good luck.
