I know this may sound strange, but I've had a popcorn kernel shell stuck down in my throat for the past 10 days and I just can't seem to get it out. I've tried coughing, gargling, drinking hot and cold drinks, eating soft and crunchy food, and nothing helps. I've also had a real bad sore throat, headache, pink eye, cough and congestion a few days after the kernel got stuck in my throat. I've been tested for strep twice and each time it came back negative. I mentioned the kernel and they said it should come out with gargling. Still nothing. Any ideas? Thanks.
it's possible, too, that the kernal has passed and now it's just a cut/sore. i've thought that i had a kernal in my tonsils and messed with it for days. then it finally just started to feel better.
i hope it passes/heals soon.

Have you actually looked in your throat with a bright light? If you still have tonsils, food particles get stuck in the pockets that are hard to see..... It happens to me occationally. I could see it if I really looked.. and if you can stand it.... take a swab and swipe the area where you feel the kernal.... you may get it out. I went to the ear nose and throat cause it went on for weeks. he " vacuumed" my throad and said I should gargle with warm salt water every day to soften and break up any food particles... it had helped. occationally I have to swab my throat but I can get it out myself.... ( i know gross ) but.....
Thanks for all of the replies. It feels like it is still there. I have gargled with warm salt water, although I should probably do it more often. It feels like it's further down my throat though when I gargle. I'll keep trying everything and if it still isn't out by Monday, I will give the doctor another call. Thanks again for the ideas.
Just checking in to see if everything is ok.
Well, after 10 days the kernel finally came out on its own! I was half-asleep when it happened early this morning, and I thought I was dreaming, but I felt it move and it also felt like there was something else attached to it (a little bit of skin maybe?). Anyway, when I got up this morning, it was gone and my sore throat is gone too. My swollen glands are feeling better. And of course, I had just made an appt. yesterday with an ENT for this Friday. If all is well tomorrow and I'm feeling 100% better, I will cancel the appt. Thanks for everyone's ideas and concerns.

Try a neti pot. http://www.healingdaily.com/exercise/neti-pot.htm
You can get them at most drug stores.

The picture for the neti pot made me smile. The girl looks a little like Gwen Stefani.
its actually pretty simple and im quite mad that the suggested ways to get it out seems to be anything but the natural way to do it.. Say the particle is on the left side of your throat in the middle of your neck look in that direction (down and left) as if you were trying to look at the particle in your neck and swallow. it may take a few times, and drinking something as you do this really helps.
So if it is in the right side look down to the right, trying to pinch the particle in your neck and swallow till you have (succesfully) swallowed it obviously.

If your doctor isn't being overly helpful, you may want to think about going to an Ear/Nose/Throat specialist. I would imagine would be able to help. Good luck.
