I was just wondering if anyone has had a reaction from the machines that make peanuts into peanutbutter in grocery stores?
My son had a reaction while in the store, just watery eyes and red patches, not sure if it was airborne reaction or other allergies? I hate those machines anyway!
Thanks, Donna
They have those machines in a lot of the Health Food Stores- Mother's Market ect. When we shop at those stores we stay clear of them. The machines are rather large and usually in a an area with the bulk foods which we avoid anyway. But to tell you just the scent of the peanut butter/nuts from those machines can make ones throat scratchy and a little nervous. We still shop at these stores and just stay away from where those machines are.
The thing is I did switched stores, after I tryed to get them to move it, to a back wall, and they wouldn't (WinCo). So I was at the new store (Rosauers), in the health section and came around a corner and there was another one.
So now I am looking into other stores, only have two more in this town, hoping it's not a new trend everywhere. Donna
Donnag, yes I have had a bad reaction to one of those machines. It was years ago at a GNC (General Nutrion Center) store. They were grinding peanuts for the fresh peanut butter they sold. I broke out in serious hives over my jaw line and throat. These hives itched so bad that I scratched until I bled. (I have since found that Listerine - only the original, not flavored - helps stop the itch of hives for me. I also carry Benedryl (sp?) now and my epi of course.)
Needless to say, I avoid places that make fresh peanut butter like the plague now. I only grocery shop late at night so that I can avoid such situations (I don't think my grocery store grinds nuts but they do grind the flavored nut coffee beans which could pose a problem.)
So, my advice would be to keep your little boy as far away as possible!

I've never even seen or heard of such a thing. What will they come up with next? I would switch grocery stores.
