FYI...
A reminder to always read ingredient labels.
There are two new products in the stores:
Nestle Peanut Smarties
Nestle Peanut Butter Smarties
There is no risk of cross contamination with the regular safe Nestle Smarties, as the peanut and peanut butter Smarties are manufactured overseas and imported into Canada.
This is similar to the Kit Kat Chunky peanut butter, which is also manufactured overseas so there is no risk of cross-contamination with the Canadian Kit Kats.
Thought I better post this though to remind people to always check labels. If you see a bowl of Smarties at someone's house, don't just eat them - always make sure to read the ingredient label to be safe.
I think Nestle has begun to carry these products to compete with M&Ms, Reeses Pieces, etc. as their competitors (Cadbury, Hershey, M&Ms, etc) do have a lot of products on the market containing peanuts.
An additional note - there is a new product called Coffee Crisp beans that comes in a plastic package - it is labelled as "manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts". Smarties Shakers and Christmas tree ornaments have the same warning.
So in summary, always read ingredient labels to be safe

Great reminder though, erik, because I know sometimes with things like Smarties, in particular, I've often been known to just go in and grab them.

yes... many kids may think Smarties are always safe... but before eating them (especially when away from the home), ingredient labels must be read to ensure they are not peanut Smarties

erik, how was Boston?
Quite frankly, I didn't mind the pb Smarties bar because the Smarties bars were all unsafe. I'm a bit ticked off that there are pb Smarties because really, who's to know in say school situations especially if someone has pb Smarties if they're not going to look any different than regular Smarties.
I'll have to warn both children about them. Jesse would never take food from another person regardless but my daughter has certainly been tempted and if they are Smarties (which they are), she wouldn't know if someone offered it to her out of their lunch/snack until she bit into one.
Really the same for a PA child as well.
Thank-you for posting about them because I haven't seen them yet, but, as I say, I am kinda ticked off about them.
I am SO glad that my guy is getting older (in some ways).
Thanks again, erik.

erik, yes, I think domestic goddess posted about these already - I purposely checked in the stores to see if I could see the bloody things - I have only seen the pb Smarties bar so far.
Great reminder though, erik, because I know sometimes with things like Smarties, in particular, I've often been known to just go in and grab them.
