Tradgedy hits and a Peanut Allergy is the culperate!

A 25 year old girl was rushed to a Northern Chicago suburban hospital having an anaphilactic reaction to Peanuts. Apparently, the girl was eating at work in the cafe and as she did everyday, asked if her food choices contained peanuts. She was told NO! After consuming her meal she went into anaphilactic shock.

She died at the hospital.

I didn't know the girl or her family, but I cried when I heard of the tradgedy. It is a chilling reminder that it can happen.

Sadly,
Melinda

What a terrible tragedy! Where did you hear about this? Do you know if she had an Epipen with her? Thanks for sharing this information. Even though it is hard for us to hear, we do need to hear about it as does the general public.

PattyR-

I have family who works at the hospital, and I have no information regarding the Epi-Pen. Sorry that I have no more information.

This is just so sad, how heartbreaking for her family!

There was a young girl here in Ottawa a few years ago (before I knew Wade was PA) who died as a result of tasting one mouthful of a peanut sauce her mother had prepared. She was 14 and had never liked peanuts but had never been diagnosed. I still remember her name "Christine Guay".

I wonder if the young woman in your post had access to an epi-pen? I'm having a PO'd at DH day today, he's taken Wade out with him to do some "guy shopping" at Home Depot and I just realized that he forgot to bring along the epi-pens. Needless to say I'm a wreck! I know that everybody has their forgetful moments, but when it's something this important! ARRRRGGG!

Sorry for the rant!

Regards,

Katiee (Wade's mom)

IT'S LIKE A BOLT OF LIGHTENING HITTING ME WHEN I HEAR THIS. SOMETIMES IT'S EASY TO BECOME LAZY ABOUT BRINGING THE EPIPEN EVERY WHERE WITH US SINCE WE HAVE'NT HAD A REACTION FOR FOUR YEARS. READING THIS TRAGEDY REMINDS ME HOW IMPORTANT IT IS AND HOW IMPORTANT MY SON IS TO US THAT HE CAN BE TAKEN AWAY WITHOUT WARNING AND DESPITE ALL OUR PRECAUTIONS. MY PRAYERS TO THE FAMILY AND GOD BLESS

I READ AN ARTICLE IN MY NUTRITION ACTION NEWSLETTER YESTERDAY THAT EARLY ADMINISTRATION OF EPINEPHERINE MAY NOT ALWAYS BE LIFE-SAVING. SENT SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE GAVE MY PA 8 YR OLD SON A TIGHTER HUG
