Do you ever get past the panic feeling with grocergy stores stocking open bins of nuts in the produce departments?

We have six different grocery store options in our area. Not all carry these "open bin" nuts all year long, however, at this time of year they all do. Even the store that I would shop at because they didn't have these nuts, now carries them. I hate buying produce because of it and hate shopping more than ever.

I feel like I should be wiping down all our groceries because I know that people can be very careless. Heck, even one of the store managers informed us that they're always picking up after customers that grab the open bin nuts and proceed to eat them while they shop. I just have pictures of nut pieces everywhere. I know I've been told that the risk is low, I just can't help but hating my grocery shopping experiences these days.

Yes I've noticed peanuts in bags, but some of the bags are broken and then there are loose peanuts around. And loose chestnuts. I hold my breath when I walk by them. It makes me feel better if I do. If I buy something close to nuts like raisin boxes I do wipe them down when I get home. the other day I went to grab a head of broccoli and I saw pistachio shells in the section where the broccoli was. I skipped the broccoli. Imagine all the stuff we buy and don't even notice if it is contaminated with anything. All these nuts are making me nuts!

I have noticed this more and more in the last month. Every grocery store I've been to (at least 4) have had open bins of nuts. Wonderful. Blah.

Yes, they tend to do this when they're gearing up for the holidays!!!
I honestly haven't taken DS to the grocery store with me for 6 months. I don't take him shopping ANYWHERE if I can help it!
Both local grocery stores here Stop N Shop, King's and A&P all have open bins that I began seeing at the end of October.
PITA!!!!

Yep, it's the holiday season. My store has huge open displays of nuts right by the produce area: peanuts, pistachios, cashews, walnuts. Not my favorite sight. I'm worried about treading on them and bringing the residue into my home on my shoes.

To my surprise, in Walmart the nuts were in bins, but in sealed bags!! Unfortunately, I was in Hannaford and also Stop & Shop this week, both had open bins.

The grocery store where I do most of my shopping has bins of nuts, but they are covered and up high where a little kid can't lift the lid.

When I'm in a grocery store and see open containers of nuts, I speak up. If someone is working in the produce department I tell them that the open bins are a health hazard but I also ask for the store manager and complain. I think it is done out of ignorance.

Go to the manager and speak up! If we all do this, maybe they'll cover the bins.

I am glad that some store seems to be coming to their senses. I just wish I could find one...
