We got a notice home from school today. This isn't the first time. Mind you the school has been good about PA and the teacher and parents. On Friday the children need to bring in a healthy green snack. Examples: celergy stick with peanutbutter, pistacio nuts along with other safe things.
I think they print and copy the same papers and they use them every year and don't even read through the stuff they give out.
They have sent notices home no to bring in peanut or nut products along with other allergies in the class so I'm hoping parents will keep in mind that there is an allergic child. Actually, they do know as I hear people say it all the time "there is a child with a severe peanut allergy" then I say that it's my son and they are very good about it.
I will mention this to the teacher tomorrow and ask her to send another notice about the allergy to remind people not to bring peanuts/nuts.
Thanks for reading my vent.

Remind her to include peanutbutter in the *don't send" group. Silly as it sounds, some people don't make the connection to peanutbutter coming from peanuts.
A substitute could be celery with cream cheese or any spread cheese.
I bet you're right that it's a standard, previously used letter that they didn't even read. I complained to our community ed. departement about multiple mistakes in their latest brochure, and they apologized, saying that they read those class descriptions so often that they hardly even see them anymore. You know what I mean? They kind of take them for granted because they know the class. They told me that they think they need to bring in someone outside the department to check things over so that someone will notice those changes that should be obvious. I'd be upset, too, but it was probably an honest mistake.

How frustrating!!!
As a former classroom teacher may I suggest that you call first thing in the morning, or send a note, better yet stop in before class. You will want the correction sent ASAP and she will likely need to use her planning period to prepare it. If you miss her planning period it will delay the correction an entire day. Although many parents will realize it is a mistake you'd be surprised how many won't. You may want to provide a couple of safe green alterative. This kind of problem along with widespread child obesity is what has prompted the Texas legislature to greatly restrict "food activates" at school. I believe there are also federal restrictions now interesting they must be tying the activity to a lesson.
I was lucky the year I had a child with dietary restrictions I also had a very active room mom who volunteered to call the other parents prior to any food event and remind them of the class policy. That way the mother of the allergic child wasn't looked on as pushy or a nag and it saved me a lot of time and worry. I had another mother that came to all the food events and inspected the foods BEFORE they came in the room. Like I say I was lucky most teachers don't have that kind of help. You are right, one person probably made notes for the entire grade or school.
