Help, dd's teacher wants to do a no-bake recipe in school to teach measuring. Her usual recipe is PB cookies. She asked if I have something different to make. The only no-bake recipe I have still requires a stovetop.

Anyone have a completely "heat-free" recipe that second graders can make in the classroom that is PN free? My youngest is the PA, but this dd's teacher knows we don't want her sisters eating PN's either. I would like to encourage her enthusiasm by helping whenever she asks.

Off-hand can't think of any recipes. Would the teacher's pb recipe work with soybutter or peabutter?

Just wondering-Wouldn't the pb cookies have to be baked?

Like the above poster I would suggest soy butter or sunbutter. My younger girls and I take soy butter, mix it w/ honey, and oameal and then round it in balls. We put them on a plate in the fridge and insert toothpicks for a snack or treat. ( my mom used to do this when I was younger with pb)
Other than that, I can't think of anything no-bake. sorry...

I would use sunbutter, but you have to add some lemon or lime juice or reduce the "sodas" to eliminate ph problem resulting in green cookies.
If you go on sunbutter website under recipies, it will tell you how to adjust.
I can't think of anything that doesn't require at least melting or boiling something.

Do they have to eat them immediately? Here's something that needs to be refrigerated for a bit but requires no stove or oven:

Refrigerator Cookies

1 cup sugar
1 stick of butter, softened
1 egg
3 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup milk

First put butter in a mixing bowl. Then slowly add sugar and beat until creamy. Next beat the egg and add to mixture. Add cocoa, then vanilla. Add flour a bit at a time. Then add the milk. Add a little extra flour if it's not stiff enough. Chill for one hour.

Take the dough and shape it into long rolls about 2 inches in diameter. Cover each roll with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for 24 hours. Cut the rolls to make cookies.

-----------------------------------------
Good luck! That's a tricky one. There are many no-bake recipes out there but most require using a stove at some point.

If someone has an ice cream maker you could make homemade ice cream. ALl you need is milk, cream, or half and half, and other ingredients that you can control depending on the flavor. Then they could practice measuring and learn about how ice cream is made, something that seems to mystify young ones!

The only problem with this is that only a few people would get to do the actual measuring. Are they working in small groups?

The other way to solve this would be to do the old "Ice cream in a Ziplock bag" activity. Then all the kids could make their own ice cream. Just another idea! Here's a link for instructions:

Good luck!

Is Marshmallow fluff off limits? (Didn't have time to look on the board.)

We used to make rice crispie treats in class using fluff as opposed to melting the marshmallows. Rather than using the additional butter, we used cooking spray to keep them from sticking.

Thanks everyone. Those all look tasty. I haven't clarified with the teacher yet, as this came via dh, but I'm pretty sure it has to be no heat. I'll give her copies of all these and she can pick.

I don't have easy access to sunbutter, soybutter, etc, without ordering it online. It seems easier to just make something that doesn't require it. Also, the soy butter I've had in the past has been very "stiff". I wasn't sure how well it would mix in.
