I have seen a new tv commercial for Mars bars the last few days. It really emphasizes the fact that all Mars bars made in Canada (all sizes) are peanut-free.

I've seen a lot of tv commercials lately emphasizing the peanut-free status of their products (Quaker granola bars, Mars bars, Chapmans ice cream, etc)... it's nice to see!!!

erik, I almost came into this thread last night to say that I had seen the first commercial for the peanut free Mars. Jesse saw it to-day.

I continue to be really pleased.

I know the bars have the peanut fee logo but has anyone read the ingredients? I believe the box says that "may contain nuts". My husband looked quickly at the Costco when they were giving out samples.

I haven't checked it out yet. But I did look at Equality Ice Creams this week tons of variety with peanut and nut free sticker but the ingredients said may contain nuts?? I read it twice to be sure.

Thanks

I went to buy a Mars bar tonight... it has the peanut-free logo on the package and the ingredient list does not include peanuts or nuts So they are safe.

Regarding Equality ice cream at A&P, it is peanut-free/nut-free now, but they are using up the old packaging. Soon, new packaging will arrive that states peanut-free/nut-free on the label.

I think they have been sticking the peanut-free/nut-free stickers on this product on an interim basis until the new packaging is ready - if there's any doubt in your mind just wait until the new packaging as it should arrive soon (I've already seen a few flavours with the new packaging in my Dominion

You're welcome.

At Shopper's Drug Mart, I saw the big case of mini snack size Mars bars this week (70 bars per box).. there is a large peanut-free logo right on the box Perfect for Halloween

I was checking a few days ago. There were some packages that said "may contain trace amounts of nuts" and there were others that very clearly said "PEANUT/NUT FREE" on the front of the package.

Some of the old packaging still has the old product in it -- so for now be very careful reading.

With Hallowe'en coming up and the bags of mini Mars in the stores now, just a reminder (which probably no one here needs) to make sure to still double check the mini Mars on Hallowe'en. Never know who still has last year's stock.

But other than that, and I've done the reminder already and will again, we're SO excited about this year's Hallowe'en!

Well, as far as the candy goes.

Best wishes!

Interesting news.

I called MARS this morning. The MARS bars made in Canada are peanut-free. SAhe also told me the Bounty bar (which is made in Europe and imported to Canada) is also peanut-free.

Here is some interesting information.

The peanut-free facility in Newmarket Ontario that makes the MARS bars for Canada, also manufactures Three Muskateers and Milky Way bars that are exported to the US market only (not to Canada)

So that means some (but not all) Milky Way and Three Muskateer bars in the USA are made in the peanut-free facility in Newmarket Ontario.

hmmmmmmmmmmmm.. I wonder if Mars USA labels these separately?? That would be great!! It would be great for our American friends if they knew which Milky Way and Three Muskateers were manufactured in the peanut-free facility!

Maybe you can call MARS USA to ask if they label these bars with no peanut alert?

wow - that would be AWESOME! I would think though, that they would be shipped to the northern US, not way down here in the southwest.

Yes...

plus I also have a feeling that all Milky Way and THree Muskateers would have the 'may contain peanuts' label, even if they were manufactured at the peanut-free facility in Canada. Why?? Because if some Milky Way were safe, and some had a peanut allergy alert, it might get confusing... so they may just out the warning on all the bars.

Although......... all chocolate bars are stamped with a code to identify the facility that they were processed in... so if you get the code for the Newmarket Ontario facility that is peanut-free, you would also be able to check individual Milky Way and Three Muskateers bars to determine which ones actually were safe!

More good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I talked to Mars today. They have removed the "may contain peanuts" label from the MARS DARK chocolate bar. Great news!!

They won't be adding the peanut-free logo to it as it is manufactured ina different facility (the peanut allergen testing equipment they use to certify the peanut-free status is only in the Newmarket ON facility)...

But it will no longer have a peanut/nut allergy alert as the CSR told me that manufacturing conditions have changed so there is no longer any risk of cross contamination. This is the same as the BOUNTY bar which is manufactured in Holland and has no allergy alerts.

The TWIX and THREE MUSKETEERS bars will continue to say "may contain peanuts" however.

That's a poor excuse. though I agree it is possible.

Quaker Chewy has peanut-free and others with warnings. Same flavours. Similar labels.

they just tell us to READ THE LABEL.

yes.. it would be nice if M&M/Mars USA was to add the "peanut-free" logo to the Milky Way and Three Muskateers bars that are manufactured in the peanut-free facility in Newmarket ON and distributed to the USA. When I talked to the CSR at Mars Canada, she said that decision is up to the American M&M/Mars division since it is their product.

So there are lots of peanut-free Milky Way and Three Muskateers bars in the USA but no way to identify them as far as I know. Maybe some of the American members of PA.COM can contact M&M/Mars USA to ask why these products have a peanut allergy alert on them when they are manufactured in a peanut-free facility in Newmarket ON Canada.

erik, I didn't even know there was a Mars Dark so I was very excited to come in here (wanted to last night) to say that I have seen the "peanut free" commercial now for the Mars Dark bar. Now, just to find it.

I thought it was GREAT timing for the commercial to start airing - right before back-to-school.

Best wishes!

I had a friend buy these for DD a few months ago (from Canada,of course). She loves them! We have 48 big bars. She freezes them and takes them to the pool. Now when the other kids are eating their snacks she has something they're all jealous of!
I also saw them at halfpennybooksandmore.com.
