Hello Everyone,

I am pretty new to the world of peanut allergy, and have been wandering around this wonderful site for a few weeks reading great info and getting lots of support already.

About 5 or 6 weeks ago we discovered my 2 year old son was allergic to peanuts when he was fed a peanut butter and cheese cracker at his preschool. He blew up like a balloon and was covered completely head to toe in hives, but thankfully his airway was not compromised.

It was quite a shock to discover this as we have not history of food allergies anywhere, and had never specifically avoided peanut products before.

I have found this site a great area of support already, as I have not come across many others with peanut allergy so far. I have also already had some fun run ins with my ex-pediatrition (who said "give him benadryl and try peanuts again next year), and our hopefully soon to be ex-preschool.

Thanks again. Nice to "meet" everyone.

Welcome.
Hope you have an epi-pen for your son. Sound like a pretty serious reaction.
There is lots to learn here. Take your time.

Hi Jenni,
Welcome!

Last spring we found out that our 2 year old also has a PA, and we didn't have any food allergies in our family either. I didn't even really "get it" myself until I read all these threads for a couple weeks. Even my own pediatric allergist only armed me with "avoid all peanuts and peanut products"--of course, it's actually pretty comprehensive information, but I didn't UNDERSTAND it until I came here.

I hope you find the answers and support you're looking for! Jen

Welcome.

There is so much information and support here. We are all very lucky to have this site. My parents and grandparents have always said that they don't have food allergies, however the more I talk to them I realize that they don't recognize that they have had reactions. It's very interesting.
I wish you luck. One of my twins is PA and EA it can be very frustrating, but thank goodness for all of the support.
