Hi Everyone!! I just joined today so I wanted to welcome myself. I'm at at-home Mom; I have 2 boys, ages 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. My 3 1/2 is allergic to peanuts. My youngest son has not been tested yet so we still don't know. I'm terrified to send my son to pre-school this coming September. I'd appreciate any advice.

Hi! Welcome to the boards! I noticed in your other post that you are from CT. I grew up in Hamden, but moved from CT 5 years ago. I still miss it.
My son just started preK. He started in Jan because the school I was going to send him to didn't want to deal with the pnt issue. The school he is in now is wonderful. Check out the school threads, you'll find lots of good information and lots of support, as Amy said.
And again, welcome...glad you joined us!

Welcome Jodi2boys! I'm happy that you joined us. One of the biggest steps we face is when we send our child off to school for the first time. I'm sure this site and the people on it will be able to help you over this major hurdle.
Thanks for your responses!! I will definetly check out the School board for some advice. I don't even know where to start with the school. I want to be fully prepared before it gets here. Here's a little more info. about us: My son, Jake was diagnosed with a peanut allergy around 1 years old when he took a lick of pb icecream and got hives all around his mouth. His pediatrician (at that time, I've changed) didn't take it serious and didn't make much of it at all (didn't prescribe an epipen either). Just told me to try and avoid peanuts/peanut products. I did (even not knowing the severity of PA) until we were at a family picnic the following summer and someone gave my son a pb cookie. Within seconds, he had hives surrounding his mouth and started getting hoarse. We called 911, while waiting...he started vomitting then gasping for air. His eyes were swollen almost shut, he could barely speak, his throat was open very little, he was extremely white, and just pretty much lifeless in my arms. It took 10-15 minutes for the ambulance to get there (they said they couldn't find the house, we called 911 back 2 more times). The strangest part was seconds before they arrived, my son started showing major improvement...he started breathing better and becoming more alert. This was the scariest day of our lifes! It was at this time, I changed pediatrians and took him to an allergy specialist. We now carry epipens everywhere we go and I've been trying to research as much information as possible. I've been a member of FAAN for a year and just joined this organization yesterday. Hope to get some advice and learn more about this terrible allergy! I'm also very excited to meet other mothers who go through this everyday.- Jodi

Hi, I am new too. I thought I would just share a stat I just learned. I am not sure how accurate it is but I read that siblings of allergic kids have a 7% chance of having allergy to something as opposed to 1-2% in the general population. Identical twins are 67% or so, frat. twins (which I have) are the same as siblings of course
I do not look forward to school, our playgroup/bible study/church have gone peanut free for us and another little boy at playgroup. I'll watch for your posts
