I just picked up a 2-pk, what an improvement! The cases are much more sturdy, no need for an extra "holder". The 2-pk is held together by a little (removable) brace, in case you carry them both together. Also, there are clear instructions right on the pen. The most impressive thing, in my opinion, is the hard bottom, it would block the needle in case it accidently misfired. Very impressive.

Mine are not in 2-pks, they're just singles, but they also have the improved packaging. Much better. I hated the way those flimsy old cases cracked and splintered.

edited to add: I got mine in June and they don't expire until Nov 2006! Almost a year and a half.

I lucked out with the expiration date, also Dec. 06. I'm thinking since they are newly packaged, at least this time, they all should have good dates. Next time,
probably back to the old way of begging for better dates.

I love the new design too, but it is a little hard to fit into the allergy pack that my son has carried his epi pen jr in for the last 4 years. I love it anyway Its great that the case is hard and protective!
