I was really pleased to receive three copies of a Nestle Canada announcement this week in the mail (from MedicAlert Canada, Anaphylaxis Canada, and Allergy Asthma Information Association).

Nestle Cares About Consumers with Allergies
Providing peanut/nut-free chocolate bars for a safe and fun-filled Hallowe'en

At Nestle, we're committed to making the very best for all Canadians including those with peanut and nut allergies. We're Canada's only national confectionery company to do so.

Allergic consumers have come to rely on Nestle SMARTIES, AERO, KIT KAT, COFFEE CRISP and MIRAGE chocolate bars because they are all peanut/nut-free. Peanut/nut allergies can be very serious, even life-threatening. When you buy these Nestle chocolate bars at Hallowe'en, you can feel confident that the children who knock on your door will be getting safe treats.

Earlier this year, we reaffirmed our commitment to providing peanut/nut-free chocolate bars. We've been doing so now, for two decades.

Nestle SMARTIES, AERO, KIT KAT, COFFEE CRISP and MIRAGE chocolate bars have been and will continue to be peanut/nut-free. Over Hallowe'en however, an allergy allergy may appear on a limited number of treat-size SMARTIES, AERO, KIT KAT and COFFEE CRISP labels. We want to reassure you that these chocolate bars are peanut/nut-free and that we are currently in the process of producing new labeling.

If you have any concerns or questions about these chocolate bars, we urge you to visit our web site at www.nestle.ca or call us toll-free at 1-800-387-4636.

Canadians with peanut/nut allergies can continue to count on us to deliver the chocolate bars they trust: Nestle SMARTIES, AERO, KIT KAT, COFFEE CRISP and MIRAGE!

Yes, it is great that these bars are 100% safe (and they taste so great too!) Support Nestle Canada and buy these bars this Halloween!

Especially since all of the Cadbury/Neilson (Caramilk, Dairy Milk, Jersey Milk, etc) and Effem/Mars (Mars, Twix, Three Musketeers, etc) mini-chocolate bars are all unsafe this Halloween as they may contain peanuts/nuts ...

erik, do you have a favourite Nestle bar? I love Smarties, of course, but people find it odd when they see a 42 year old woman lining the candy up by colour. I have ALWAYS loved Coffee Crisp, long long before (obviously ) before PA entered my life. They are great, aren't they?

I want to try the Aero dark. I can't remember if I've tried it before or not. My DH has taken to eating the chocolate chips I buy for making muffins because of the beautiful semi-sweet dark chocolate at really good prices compared to a chocolate bar. Of course then I can never make the muffins! I think that's the one chocolate bar that we do miss - the dark chocolate Toberlone bar. Oh well.

Best wishes!

Hey Cindy!

Just wondering if you knew that your letter to Nestle was published in this month's Anaphylaxis Canada newsletter? They published a bunch of letters written by children to Nestle, plus they added your letter last (by Cindy, 42 years!). It was the one where you described the Smarties commercial jingle and told about how you used the red smarties as lipstick when you were a kid.

Way to go!!

Carolyn

Cayley's Mom, no, I didn't know! Did they print the whole letter? I just went to the Take Action part of the board and re-read the letter (memory not serving me well as usual ) and I must say the whole letter was pretty damn good!

However, it is kinda embarrassing, isn't it?

I was wondering if I could somehow get a copy of the newsletter from you? I did receive something from Anaphylaxis Canada last week but it wasn't their newsletter, it was more to do with their goals for the future.

Wow! A 42 year old kid! Oh, by the way, I did try the Aero Dark to-day and I must say that I can understand why DH is eating the semi-sweet chocolate chips instead, although the Aero Dark would be quite suitable for younger people.

Best wishes!

Sure, no problemo. I'll mail it on Monday. I don't think it's the whole letter, but it's a pretty good excerpt. And I should say it's from the SUMMER 2001 newsletter, not this month's. Kudos!

Cayley's Mom, I'm sure you find this okay and/or amusing because YOU'RE not in the 40+ club yet!

Thank-you for sending me a copy, that would be great. Since you seem pleased with it, then I guess I will be as well!

Best wishes!

Hi Cindy..

A favourite Nestle bar? I like them all so much....

1) Kit Kat Chunky - regular Kit Kat is great, but chunky is much better!!! Very addicting.. Costco sells cases of 24 for about $12 - this is my favourite - did you ever try the Kit Kat Chunky? (it is made in England for Nestle Canada in a nut free plant)

2) Aero dark - milk chocolate bubbles coated in dark chocolate - hmmm.. maybe this is my favourite? haha (warning- they sell slower than regular Aeros so buy them in a busy store so they won't be old, as they lose some taste as they get old, or if they melt)

3) Smarties - every time I go see a movie, I have to pick up a KING SIZE pack... I love Smarties (it says #1 with kids on the pack, but I am 35 and still love them!)

Coffee Crisp, Mirage, Aero mint (also made in England), Aero Chunky, Kit Kat regular .... they are great too! Nestle makes the best bars.

My girlfriend's favourite bar was always Neilson Mr. Big (I never ate that before for obvious reasons). But she gave up her peanut chocolate bars (and peanut butter) for me when we got together.. 8 years ago! Must be true love right?

erik, maybe that was what was wrong with the Aero Dark I tried to-day. I did think it was kinda old! (as if I'm one to speak ) I did see the Aero Chunky there was well but I've always found the regular Aero bars thick enough. Coffee Crisp is definitely my favourite.

Now, as long as your girlfriend doesn't leave you for a pb chocolate bar some day, I'd have to say that her giving up her most favourite chocolate bar and pb for you must be love!

Best wishes!
