My 11-month old DD with NKFA but with a PA, EA older sister had a reaction tonight while eating dinner.
She was eating Trader Joe's whole wheat pasta with a little bit of eggplant and goat's cheese on it.
She got red blotches on her face and hives on her forearms. I called the pediatric allergist right away, gave her Benedryl and everything cleared up quickly.
However, I'm baffled. She's eaten the pasta many times before and is fine with cow's milk. Could she be allergic to goat's milk without being allergic to cow's milk? Or could it be eggplant? Or, I guess any of the products could be cross contaminated with nuts but PA DD ate it with no problems.
If anyone has experience with eggplant or goat's cheese allergy I'd appreciate hearing about it.
I've been trying to be so careful with her diet to avoid any allergic reactions. This is so frustrating!
Hi,
I think eggplant is high in histamine. Some foods, like strawberries, may cause hives in some individuals. This is not an allergic reaction. But is treated as your Doc suggested w/ the Benadryl.
Hope this helps,
Daisy

What are the ingredients in the goat cheese? I have heard of goat cheese that contained lysozyme which is made from egg white.
