I am just wondering if anyone here saw my wife and kids last night. The husband was acting like a fool and thought his wife was out to get him so he passed his dinner over to the little girl. The wife started yelling asking him if he was trying to kill the child becuase his dinner had peanut oil on it and she is allergic to it.
Of course that wasn't a long segment but maybe we will see a bit more of this allergy on the show. Now I know of a couple of tv shows that are using the PA on it. take care claire
Claire E Allen
I picked up on it. I thought it was cool.
Perhaps we can write to them and ask them to expand upon it? I didn't see it, but do watch it occasionally.
Amy
I saw it but have never heard anything about it before on there. Hope they do more on it.
Also saw a "Yes Dear" rerun where they try to bump off a squirrel for bringing peanuts into their yard. However the brother in law eats pistachios and drops the shells in the yard so I didn't think it was all that great of a portrayal.
On Yes Dear, did I see a jar of Nutella in the background during one episode? That contains Hazelnuts.
The Nutella product contains peanut oil. Guess somebody didn't read the label.
Claire, yes, I saw the episode. I had wanted to post about it here but didn't have a monitor that week so couldn't post. What I'm wondering if it is a specific network that is mentioning PA and anaphylaxis more in their shows.
I know that last year I posted about the doctor on Crossing Jordan (I'm not sure, I think it's been cancelled this year) that had a peanut allergy. Interestingly enough, in watching a repeat of that, he was making a date to go and have some Thai food. However.
Then, there is Yes Dear and their child with PA. Now, My Wife and Kids and the youngest child with PA.
Anaphylaxis has also been death material (if you will) if crime shows such as Law & Order (not just the regular one but the off-shoots as well) and C.S.I. (I think both of them as well).
Again, I'm just interested in if it's one network that is putting the information out or if it's just all of the networks and different shows. It would be interesting to find out and perhaps find out why (i.e., an executive at CBS has a PA child? or certain writers have food allergic children?).
The only thing for me of course in that show, was why was the wife cooking with peanut oil to begin with, but then again, that's my comfort zone, not hers.
And that was a pretty wacky episode so I can understand how the line could have been missed.
To whoever posted above about noticing Nutella in the background on Yes Dear, I always try to keep my eyes open now when there is a PA person mentioned to see if there are any inconsistencies. That might even be worth writing to the Yes Dear people about because, although I only watch the show once in a blue moon (I don't like the characters), it is quite recognized that the son is PA and if anyone else notices the Nutella like us PA parents would, they may think it's okay. Do you know what I mean?
No, Claire, I thought it was interesting and I'm glad you posted about it.
Here's kinda an Off Topic question but has anyone seen a TV show where there are asthmatic children mentioned? I don't mean that you actually see them doing their puffers, but just have asthma mentioned?
My reason for asking is that there are more asthmatic children than there are food allergic children. Or, is it because, as a society we have always been much more aware of asthma than we have been of food allergies and that's why TV shows are now mentioning food allergies and anaphylaxis?
Hmm.....
Best wishes!

Malcom in the Middle- Malcom's friend who is in a wheelchair also appears to have asthma. Arthur- Buster has asthma but they only mentioned it in one episode where he didn't want to do his medications and tried to get by without them. They've never shown him doing his meds since.
One of my favorite movies as a teener, "The Goonies." The main character has asthma and uses his inhaler throughout the movie!

I guess I wasn't paying close attention to that episode last night. I did not even notice that line!
