If you're still around I'm in Mont Co, MD and have a young son who starts kindergarten in another year who is highly PA.
Just curious if you are still around. I'm starting to prepare for getting a 504 (for 2007 - so I have plenty of time). I would love to touch base with others in the county who are doing/have been through this.

I'm glad to see some fellow Montgomery County folks! I've taken to checking here once a month or so to see if anyone has surfaced from my area.
I'm unfamiliar with the S.A.F.E. group. I'd be interested in learning more about it.
I've found a support group that meets monthly in Rockville. The meetings are the third Monday of the month, going from 7:30 PM until 10ish. They are for adults only (moms come while dad stays home with the kids). If you're interested in joining, I can connect you with the group leader. Since some people are very opposed to FAAN, I should say that the group is loosely affiliated with FAAN. Dr. Robert Wood is our sponsor, which doesn't mean much as far as I can tell. He talks to the group once per year (actually, he's scheduled to give a research update and field questions on June 19th). The only other FAAN connections seem to be that virtually everyone goes to FAAN's annual conference, and most people do the FAAN Walk to raise $ for research. I've been a member of the group since January '06, so my experience with the group has been limited. I can say that it's a very nice group of women, and I've enjoyed having in-person support in addition to this board.

Carol, my 2 year old is the PA child. My 6 year old does not have any FAs. I have experience with PA and preschool, but I haven't yet dealt with elementary schools. I'm dreading dealing with this. The school seems clueless.
In addition to online resources and discussion group, this group meets either monthly or quarterly at the Elkridge library. There is usually a guest speaker. Please email me if you need more info or if those links don't work. This group is really worth checking out. Let me know if you can't get to it.
Julie - many thanks for the info - I was emailed by someone from the group with the info on SAFE too so I joined up last night!
Mookie - I would love to have more info on the group you mentioned that meets in Rockville. Any resource is helpful at this point! I think you can get my email from my user profile here but if not I can post it. You don't have an email listed in your profile I think. Let me know!
I've been doing a lot of research on Mont. County schools and I'd enjoy touching base with you on occassion. I'd like to find or create a group of Montgomery County parents (perhaps that is already one that you mentioned) who deal with school issues. I don't think the school board policies here are strong enough to require someone at all times to give the epi, etc.
Let me know if you have problems emailing.
Thanks!
Carol G.

Julie,
Do you have any further info on the Elkridge Library support group? I live in Ellicott City and my daugther with a 2 1/2 year old Peanut and Egg Allergy is looking for a support group in this area. Thanks for any help.
Is the group in MoCo meant more for parents of children with PA or PA sufferers? I'm a 22 yo PA sufferer who's moving to Rockville in a few weeks (just graduated from UMCP). Would I fit into this group?
I wish I could be more helpful. This is the description of the group from the website.
This group is for members of S.A.F.E; a support group for parents of food-allergic children. The majority of our members live in Howard, Anne Arundel, Prince George's, and Frederick Counties.
If you require more info, my advice is to join the yahoo group & ask your questions. Or, you might ask your allergist if they have a phone number for anyone in the group.
I started a Yahoo Group for those in Montgomery County Maryland who want to discuss health plans, 504 plans, IEP's etc and schools.
Please go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MCSHealthPlans/
The group is for parents of children with any health issue (food allergies, diabetes, asthma, etc) that wants to discuss 504 or other health plans in our local schools.

This is an old post, but I am trying to locate a support group. I am in Rockville and my DD age 2 was diagnosed with PA. I need help from others to deal with this and get more information. If you are still on these boards please please email me with your contact info if you have indeed formed a support group. Tried to contact the person listed as the leader of the local rockville group for FAAN but received no response. Thank you! suzburger@yahoo.com
