Military Pharmacy New Epipen Limits??
Air Force pediatrician (a Captain) supposedly put through (via computer, not handwritten script) a renewal prescription for *6* Epipens. (Done at my request after telephone consult.)
AF Base pharmacy now insists they will only fill for *2*. Period.
Lone pediatrician has conveniently left for 2 weeks duty elsewhere. After considerable hassle, another fam practice doc (a Lt Col)writes for 3 & insists (orders) pharmacy to fill for 3.
We are regularly at least 2+ hours from medical care & the need for all 6 Epipens could conceivably be there -- especially considering one or more could misfire or malfunction. We don't require this number of Epipens for anyone's "convenience" as they may attempt to argue. (Since when is saving my child's life a matter of convenience??!)
Anyone else finding refusal to dispense more than 2 Epipens by military pharmacies?
DH is the one who handled this today. I'm still trying to gather all the facts & I plan to be face-to-face with base hospital commander before Monday is over. . . By then I should be slightly less than livid.
Suggestions from all are welcome, whether or not you have experience with military pharmacies.
