Military Pharmacy New Epipen Limits??

I feel badly for you. I actually had the oppesite experience for the first time ever! I wanted a set for home, as opposed to the "travelling set" and it is the backup if a set freezes or gets lost, etc... or if we go camping and need more... I said that the script was for 2 twin packs, but I only needed one twin pack. The pharmacist said she was going to give me to twin packs anyway, since the way it was written(right on) I would pay the same co-pay for tow sets as one. So I took them both. In hindsight, I will need them all come September anyway.

But, the way we get around it as well is to order refills a month after they are filled the first time. This is what I was doing as they had all expired in the last 2 months(school set, home set and travelling set). So we have 6 at a time at our best. Some times only 4. becca

We aren't military, but my insurance restricts us to 2 also. Really stinks when you need more than that.

ajas_folks, I have no military experience as far as pharmacies.

My drug coverage allows for one per month. Now, I'm sure if I used one in the month and needed to replace it, I could (although not sure), but as far as how many I can get a month, to the best of my knowledge, I do believe it is only one per month.

That's why I really have to watch expiry dates (I know we all do) because I have to plan say two months in advance if I have two expiring in September month. Then, I get one in July month and one in August month.

momma2boys, you said that you are covered for 2. Is that per month?

We have four Epi-pens for our household/school use all together. Jess has one, his Father has one, I have one, and the school has one.

Military family here too. We have gotten around the hassle of this by rotating. I refill them periodically as expiration dates lag. Started out with a good ped who ordered 6 and they all had different expiration dates. Would refill 1 or 2 at a time.

It's terrible but what helped us was that we moved twice in one year (dh was sent to Korea and we moved to be near family, then he returned and we moved again). Basically since we moved from one Tricare region to another, and then to another, Tricare hasn't kept up with how many I have on hand at any one time.

I have a friend here that carries them for bee sting allergies and she had to fight to get more than two. I really feel for you but if you cna just get that first set of 6, I think it will get easier. What you really need is a doctor to fight for you and I mean more than just "ordering" the pharmacy to fill it. Write a letter, get the head of peds to write a letter. You're the civilian (I'm assuming) and do NOT have to follow chain of command. For your child's sake...make some noise and get what you need. Somewhere along the way you'll find that one person to hook you up.

I'm not taking sides, I'm not offering advice, I'm not saying whether it is negotiable, I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out *if* [i]possibly[/i], a mindset exists.....hypothetically, I mean.

Do some military personell carry "anti-nerve gas agents" (injectible)?

If any do, how many are they routinely issued?

But then, what would we expect from a government that sends its troops into battle without the body armour and other life-protecting equipment it should?!
