Meeting w/ Superintendent

I love our school. Last night, the superintendant (wonderful woman) had a meeting (a follow-up to one we had a month ago) with the parents of kids with food allergies. The purposes of the meeting were to keep us informed on changes in our cafeterias (we are going to Chartwell's), and to get feedback from us on what we want/need for our children. The SI is so great that she is even going to talk to the directors of some preschools that parents are having trouble with regarding allergies (they are not under her control, so she cannot tell them what to do, but she has more clout than a "hysterical parent").

And she gave us good news last night--next year there will be no food for birthday celebrations. We got that news first--the notice will go home from school today. The ban does not extend to holidays, but I think that's OK--there are far fewer holidays than birthdays.

I just wanted to share. I know some of might be jealous, but really, there is no reason why it can't be like this. I'm just lucky to live someplace where it is.

That is wonderful. How fortunate you are to have such a great relationship with your school. It's nice to know there *are* some administrators who show such compassion....

The kicker is, it isn't that *I* have such a good relationship with the school. This is simply how the school is. The SI will talk to any parent, candidly, about any concern. The schools' whole staff really are there to serve the students' needs and provide with the best education possible.
Of course, now that I've shared how wonderful our schols are, I think if I tell everyone what town I'm in my taxes will go up, because you'll all want to move here.
