If you do a search I THINK you'll find it can cross-react with one of the treenuts. Not sure which one but I recall some discussions on mango. Luvmyboys

Mangos can cross react with cashews. The skin also contain a substance similar to the urushiol in poison ivy.

My oldest son (diagnosed with PA since age 1) used to eat mangoes all the time between ages 2 and 4. Your mileage may vary...just wanted to let you know of one kid with PA who ate mangoes.

Thanks! - April

This is interesting. I had never heard about peanut and mango being related for allergies.

My kids have eaten mango since they were small. No problems whatsoever. Not even an itchy throat, as far as I know. They just had some this summer with no reaction or anything. So I suppose I should assume that they can eat it.

Regarding fruit...I am NOT allergic to peanuts or soy, but I am allergic to most melons (throat itch) and fresh cherries (throat itch, lips swell). I can eat cooked cherries and even dried cherries...only the fresh ones give me a problem.

My kids are also allergic to melons. They have never eaten fresh cherries.

Ryan LOVES mangoes. He eats them a lot in the summertime with no problems, and it's one of his fave fruits.

Ryan has a low RAST score for cashew (well, low compared to peanut!) at 1.54. Before he was diagnosed with a food allergy, he ate cashews every day for 6 months as part of his lunch. Once he was diagnosed, we stopped eating all peanuts and tree nuts though.

The allergist feels his positive RAST for cashew is likely a false positive at this point. But we still avoid cashews for now.

My 2.5 year old PA only son eats mangoes several times a month. He has sensitivites to other foods (cinnamon, citrus, tomatoes), but has never evenly slightly reacted to mangoes.

I've been allergic to peanuts for 10 years and allergic to mango about 2 or 3 years now. But I have multiple food allergies.
