Kraft labeling?

doesnt there stuff say "such and such," from milk??

I could be wrong, but I thought the law just stated that companies couldn't "hide" allergens under something else. Ex: "whey" needs to now say that it is a milk product. Also, they can't put peanut products in a food and put it under "natural flavors".

But once again I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure you're right mistey. They are not required to put an allergen statement on the package...although we love it when they do [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img]. All they must do is make the ingredients easy to understand/read. If whey is listed, it must say 'milk' beside it. Or for albumin, it must say 'egg' beside it..or to that effect. Bolding isn't even required.

Nabisco and Kraft both label like this---just a bunch of words...no bold and definitely no contains statement at the bottom. The law requires them to list, in simple English, any of the top 8 allergens. They do the minimum. It is the reason I try to never buy their products. If you call them about it they will tell you they are in compliance with the law. They won't go beyond that and it is unfortunate with such a big company.

All they have to do is what the others have just said... not hide things under flavors, etc. i have been dealing with this for two and a half years and i dont find it difficult to read a kraft label. i have to read every label anyway because sesame usually isnt in bold anyway.

I feel like we have a conservative comfort zone, but we frequently use Kraft and haven't ever had a problem with them. DS is PA only, but we avoid all nuts. I have always trusted their labeling but maybe there is something I don't know. DS has been PA since 9 months of age and is almost 5... we eat Kraft products probably daily, if not several times a week.

I have a baby and I find Gerber to be a hard label to read as well. I wish they would put them in bold or just list the allergens at the bottom. Try reading for milk or egg on a little jar of stage 3 baby food(like spaghetti)....impossible!!!!

I called Kroger a while back and was told the same thing. Then I was at Kroger and noticed none of their ice creams were labelled with warnings. I called again to ask about those and they said that ALL of the ice cream products were made on shared lines. I mentioned what I was told previously about labelling and they didn't know what to tell me (literally-they said "I don't know what to tell you") I haven't looked recently-we don't have a Kroger very close by and I don't go often. I will be going soon to get some soy nut butter so I'll try to remember to look again.

I don't buy much Kroger brand anymore after that.

Ah, thanks. I guess I misunderstood. It's too bad some companies will go the extra step, while others barely slide by.

I guess I will use this to plug HEB products. They label for may contains, processed on, and processed in. And in many cases, their products have less "**** " in them (high fructose corn syrup for one). Not that I have alot of choices, as we only have one grocery store in town, an HEB, but at least I've been happy with the choices I have.

edited to add - Whoops, sorry. Didn't know that was a forbidden word. How about "undesirable, unhealthy, unneeded extra ingredients that have no place in growing children's bodies?"

I have a feeling that the major brands make the stuff for kroger and if they label for cross contamination on their own branded products, they also do on the kroger brand. If they don't on their own products, then they don't on kroger brand products.

That's what Kroger told me years ago. "Their" labels are really just whatever the manufacturer tells them to print. So, if this is still true, there's really no policy that would be uniform throughout Kroger's brand products. Each label would depend on the manufacturer that made it.
