Kingston, Ontario Schools

Hi:

We have a wonderful 4 year old son who has yet to attend school. We live in Kingston, Ontario and have been dealing with a school superintendent for almost a year now. At this point, we feel we will have better luck finding the right school by gathering information from other parents of PA children. (Our superintendent set us up with two schools - one school where he would be supervised by grade 5 - 8 students during lunch and another school where the teacher asked us if Ethan HAD to eat while at school!) Are there any schools in the Kingston area that parents would recommend?

Any help would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know of a support group in the area?

Thanks

Laurie

Ethan's Mom, hello! I can't recommend any schools in Kingston, but I am in contact with another PA parent who does live in Kingston and I know her son is currently in a "peanut free" school. They are moving to another town and are having difficulties getting a "peanut free" classroom implemented. I can contact her and get the name of the school her child is currently attending if you like.

Also, you do know that your son has the right to a "peanut free" classroom in Ontario. School board policies, though from different districts across the province all guarantee our children a "peanut free" classroom. The only thing we can never get is a "peanut free" school. This is the decision of the principal of each school.

If you're working with the Catholic School Board rather than public, it's a bit more difficult as well, but easily implemented if you get a copy of the public school policy.

I'm actually on here right now to pull up the Duty of Care article for the parent I mentioned above, so I will be in contact with her to-day.

Best wishes!

There are some school with peanut free classrooms and some that are attempting to be school wide. My daughter is in grade 6. The next big step is where to go for 7&8. Contact me if you would like more info. We had a support group going in Kingston but it slowed down to a crawl after a year. Too many different people with different comfort zones!

Cindy - Thanks for your info. Every little bit helps. We have been working with the public school board, but are currently exploring the private schools. We didn't wan to go this route but we are stunned at the ignorance and lack of compassion that we have encountered with the public school board.

Karalot - I tried to email you but my message was returned. Do you have a current email address?

Thanks

Laurie
