I knew my son was PA because he was given a peanut by my friend at around 1yr old and reacted but I did not know it was a reaction because he had a cold. He was given peanut butter by his grandmother at 2yrs old and only 1 eye swelled shut, the emergency room doctor said it was an insect bite. The final time which confirmed my suspicion after the 2nd reaction, his father fed him a peanut and he immediately vomitted and his face swelled to the size of a basket ball at age 3. Note each exposure was not from me.
He had direct contact each time and as they say his reactions got worse with each exposure. Was your child in direct contact with peanuts or nuts which confirmed for you it was PA?

My son began reacting within minutes of ingesting a tiny amount of PB. It was the first time that he had eaten any and he had never had PN products before (other than a few may contains that I don't believe he reacted to). He had just turned 2.
I knew he was having an allergic reaction because I had suffered one as a child from penicillin. I went to the store and got him some Benadryl. Did not know at the time how dangerous it could have been. He had hives, some facial swelling, flushing, but did not seem to have breathing problems. He was fine after about 30 minutes. We were lucky.
Subsequent testing confirmed the allergy.
