Hello- I was wondering if anyone knows of a safe lawn fertilizer to use... which does not contain peanut hulls. I just called Scott's and they said that their fertilizers contain peanut hulls.
Anyone found a brand that is safe?
Any thoughts would be appreciated... our lawn needs some help!
I'm not against all natural methods either.
Thanks!

you are kidding me.... i can not believe that.
i have called - Child's Play Organic - it might be regional - Indiana -- however they use corn gluten -- my son is allergic to corn!!!!!
Yikes, I didn't know that! Thanks for the info.
I have used Scotts for years and my son has never had any issues. What fertilizer were you going to use? Is it in all their fertilizers??
I emailed Scotts Canada to see if this was a concern for me. I was pleasantly suprised to see that they actually list peanut butter as an allergen on their ant traps!
I will post their response when I get it.
Thank you for your replies. Keep them coming!
Marmaluke- in the past we have used Scott's without issues- however my daughter seems to have become more reactive in the past year- mystery hives etc. We would rather err on the side of caution and eliminate any chance. We also have a dog that could track residue into the house.
The girl I talked to at Scott's looked at several of their fertilizers while on the phone with me and every one she looked at contained peanut hulls. She advised not to use any of their products. She also said that they do not carry warnings on their bags for potential allergens. Some of the fertilizers popped up on her computer screen with an allergen warning but they do not print this on their bags... something that needs to change.
ccm'smom- I'll be interested to hear about Scotts Canada- you are all so far ahead of us in the allergy department- I'm beginning to think we should move!
Saknjmom- I think miracle grow is owned by Scott's maybe I'll try giving them a call today.
I think the risk is minimal but I'd rather not worry about it- figures that we have tons of leftover fertilizer in the shed from last year!
Thanks again for your responses!

Walmart - In Canada - last spring had bags of fertilizer and grass seed with the peanut free logo. Sorry I can't recall the brand, but it did come from the U.S. So, check your local walmart.

This is also what I reported this year and last year- I had checked into the turfbuilder plus II and the crabgrass preventer. We too are looking for a weed and feed for zoysia
This is one that never occurred to me! My DS's legs were always red and blotchy and hive-y (never saw actual ones) all last summer whenever he played in the grass. We thought he had a grass sensitivity or allergy. I just looked in the garage and saw that we have 3 kinds of Scotts fertlizer--yikes!! I examined the bag--no warning like what was mentioned here.
We can skip it or find a replacement (maybe) for our house, but what are the chances parks, baseball and soccer fields, friends', neighbors', and family's yards use something similar?? I guess he could just wear pants all summer. Ugh.

Since Miracle Grow is in a liquid form, I would assume that there is no peanut "fillers" in it?
We have a service fertilize our yard and I really have never thought to ask what it is. I only asked if it was safe for my puppy and the fact that I have kids running around the yard...
Saknjmom- I was thinking you were talking about granules... thank you for clarifying. Liquid sounds promising!!

Here's the reply I got from Scott's:
"Thank you for your interest in Scotts and for the opportunity to help you with your lawn and garden endeavors.
While a few of our past products used peanut hulls as a carrier, none of our current products use peanut hulls as the carrier.
Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your interest in Scotts. Please feel free to contact our company anytime we may be of assistance."
I'm so glad!
I'm curious as to the conflicitng information received from Scott's. I see the response that Beth received but when I called them on April 28, 2007 I got a different answer. I spoke to a woman named Ellen who said that they absolutely still do use peanut hulls in their fertilizer... anyone else want to give a stab to see what they get for an answer?
The conflicting stories tend to make me leary and I think I'll stay away for now. Thanks Beth for posting the response you got! It would be nice if all companies out there could get their stories straight.

Angela Garrison is the customer service rep. who sent me that e-mail. She's in Ohio.
In a separate post(Under Scott's Fertilizer reply) I wrote that Scotts DOES use peanut hulls, I rec'd an email response today from John Jordan in Ohio. They are in two of their products, Expert Gardener Weed and Feed and Expert Gardener Winterizer plus Weed.
They also said as of 2006 they would label for this.
