My PA son who has no other food allergies once apparently reacted to eating ham. There was no mention of peanuts on the label. I've seen other posts and heard stories of other PA children reacting to meals containing ham. I know people from "hog country" and know that peanuts are fed to hogs and, in fact, have heard that companies (I don't know which ones) advertise that there hams taste great (tender or whatever) because their hogs are peanut-fed. Could the peanut protein survive and present a risk to a PA person eating the ham? I thought maybe I was being a little too far-fetched but then I read some posts here about similar concerns with peanut-fed beef. Has anyone heard any recent information about this?

Ive never heard of anything like this before, however, if a mother can pass peanut protein to her child during pregnancy and through breastfeeding, it seems like a logical conclusion that peanut fed animals contain peanut protein in their flesh.

Im interested to hear more.

My son eats ham all the time with no reaction. I just talked to 3 different ham companies and one told me that they raise their own pigs and contrary to popular belief they do not feed them any form of peanuts. I have to look through my notes (one day I'll finish getting all this stuff on the computer) to make sure I give you the right brand. I don't have the time right now but I will look as soon as I can. If you don't see anything on here in the next couple of days send me an e-mail reminder - address is in the profile.
