I have have three big Detroit Tiger fans (make that 4 if you count dh) and have lamented the fact that we could not all go to a game since ds dx with PA. Going to a game was way out of my comfort zone with ds with PA only just turned 4 years old. Just seeing all the peanut shells would give my an anxiety attack. Well dh wanted to go to a game next week and there is no way to take 2 boys with out taking the third so I called the Tigers organization and asked if they had any plan or accomodations for kids with food allergies. They took my name, phone number and email and said that they would get back to me and that they were considering selling party suite tickets individually for people with FA. Well yesterday I called back because I had not heard from anyone yet and they again said they would call me back. Figuring that I had just got the big blow off I just chalked the whole thing off. About an hour later the same guy called me back and offered me an 18 person party suite for NO CHARGE! and included parking passes! I can't believe it! We are very excited and now they whole extended family will be able to join us in our own suite.
Go Tigers!

Wow! That is so awesome to hear. I love when a major organization works to accommodate everyone. Perhaps it's because it doesn't happen very often. Hopefully this has gotten their attention enough to create a long term plan for accommodation. Thanks to the Tigers for going above and beyond.
Also wanted to add, thanks to you for your great advocacy! :)
Wow, that's awesome!!!!! Have fun!!!
Oh my goodness! Is there anyway to find out who you spoke with? My son is crazy about baseball and it is way, way out of my comfort zone to take him down there. If there were a way to accomodate him to watch the Tigers it would be incredible! Thanks!
I called the main executive office number (313-471-2000) and asked about accomodations for food allergies and I think they transferred me to the ticket sales department. Wouldn't it be great if there could be an annual event to FA kids to attend games. We are going next Thursday which is a week day afternoon game so maybe the party suites were not in high demand but I am very grateful no matter how it came about.

Well, I called and emailed the Tigers. I got an email back saying they cannot accomodate peanut allergies due to it being an outside place. "sorry". I called and left a message and never got a call back. Glad it worked out for you! At least I was another person calling in about the allergy...thanks for the info. Have fun!
I'm sorry to hear that. I think that I would keep trying to call back and talk to someone in person. The game we went to was yesterday and we had a great time. I did find out that the suite was donated by a corporate suite owner. I guess he donates it for the games that he doesn't use it for. Also, they did not guarantee a paenut free environment as the outside seats are adjoining to the adjacent suites. Luckily there was no one on either side sitting outside and ds could safely sit outside. Of course there is no way of knowing who ate what in the suites and outside seats the day before. We did not have any reactions and everything fell into my comfort zone so all is well and the boys were very happy.

We have tickets for the Tigers in September - my husband got them at work..... I might have to call them before we go to see if we can get any special accommodations for my PA son....
I recommend calling and talking to someone directly as opposed to email. A previous poster just got a boilerplate reponse from email. I think that it is harder to refuse a request when directly talking to someone. Hopefully they win a game before then or you might have the whole park to yourself :-) Just kidding of course. Hope you have a great time. Go Tigers!

We also live in the Detroit area and would love to bring my boys to a Tigers game.
They must keep certain emails on file. I emailed the Tigers last summer asking if they had any peanut free sections and if they would consider making one if not. Last year, they said no. I just recieved this email from them today:
[i]Over the last few years we have received a few emails asking us if we had "peanut free" seating sections. Because Comerica Park is an open air facility it is impossible for us to guarantee that any portion of the ballpark is completely "peanut free". However, the Tigers have made arrangements to disinfect a large party suite and the surrounding areas to minimize any potential residue from peanuts. We will also install plexiglass between suites to try and minimize wind blown residue as well. Our concessionaire, SportService will vend peanut free products in the suite as well.
Based upon your previous email to the Detroit Tigers, we wanted to personally give you the opportunity to purchase tickets to the "peanut free suite" before they go on sale to the general public. We have made arrangements for you to take advantage of this special offer starting today until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008.
We hope this program is a success and leads to additional opportunities in the future.

YAY! I'm going to see the Tigers!!! :)
I read this again tonight ... I just love this story.

We had an AWESOME time at the game (even though they lost). My 5-year-old talks about it so much at school that his teacher thought that we had gone to several game already. She did not realize that he was talking about the same game. My 4-year-old (one with PA) keeps asking when we get to go to another game. I received the same email as the other poster did and am considering going again. I guess you have to take the chance when you get it. I am so thrilled that they decided to do this as so many are prohibitted from going. Going to Tiger games was a big deal to our family growing up and I am so happy that I can now share this with my boys (huge Tiger fans). I will have to figure out how to post some of the pics we took.

That is great! We are a detroit family too...well New Baltimore...close though. My twins are only 20 mths now but it made me sad to think we could not go to a Tigers game with them due to my little guys peanut allergy:( This gives me hope for my future Tiger fans!

That is just too funny:) We both have little sensitive Ryans. We are actually in whats considered Ira Township, but only people who live in the area have even heard of it! Thats why I always say New Baltimore. But it is kind of crazy we are right down the road!

I have been wanting to take my 5 yr old son who is PA/TNA to a baseball game, but have been afraid too with all the peanuts at ballparks. For any of you in IL- there is a team called the Kane County Cougars that plays in Geneva, IL. They have a peanut free ball game every season I believe, the one for this year will be on July 16th. They also have fireworks that night too! I've never gone to a Cougars game, but have heard nothing but good things about them. Since I know they have "peanut-free" night, I am going to purchase tickets today! Just thought I would share this for anyone else with kids who lives in IL
The Whitecaps minor league team in MI (I think it is near Grand Radpids) has a peanut free game every year also. I think this years is May 29th. They clean out the stadium before the game and everything. Hopefully the trend spreads. There are so many PA kids (and adults) who would like to go to games.

We are also going to a Tigers game at the end of September. I guess I'll have to do some investigating for that too!
I'm so excited about the Whitecaps!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone going to either of the two games offered by the Tigers in their peanut free suite? My family is so excited, we are going to both. I too received the e-mail in one of the posts (I send them an e-mail every year to get a peanut free section) so I hopped on it as soon as I got the e-mail. The first game is also on dd's birthday! It will be her first Tiger game and she is so excited. She's my child with P/TNA. I'm also excited to meet other FA parents. Can't wait to go! Hope to see some of you there!!!!
Anyone???? I am really looking forward to meeting the other FA families in the area. I sure hope some of you will be there!!
I wish we were going (again) but we really cannot afford to go right now and since we already had the opportunity to go I thought it would be great for other families to get the same opportunity. But who knows when it gets closer I might call to see if they still have tickets. Where in Michigan do you live? we are between Detroit and Port Huron (about half way).
Have a great time and please post how things went.

We are in about 45 minutes SW of Ann Arbor.
AGH! When did this all come up! I have called AND emailed them this season and I got NO notice of this event! Can anyone tell me when the games are? Did we miss them? I am soooooo bummed! I hope we can still catch one! I just sent them another email but thought I could get better faster info. on here! :) Thanks!
This is the attachment to the email that they sent me in April. Hope this helps.
Dear Tigers Fans,
We wanted to inform you about a new and exciting program that we believe directly effects you and your family.
The Tigers are going to set aside 40 tickets in a Party suite on the following dates: June 29 and July 27th , for families affected by peanut allergies.
These tickets are going to be sold on a first come first served basis at $25.00 each. (Normally $85.00)
Please note that although the party suite can accommodate up to 40 people, there are only 22 seats outside of the suite, which means that every participating family needs to share the outdoor seats as best as possible. Networking opportunities are available for the parents inside the suite.
Although every effort will be made to make sure the area is peanut free, we want you to know that because this is a open ballpark we can not 100% guarantee that you and your family will not be exposed to peanuts in some manner . Rest assured, the suite will be cleaned and extra efforts will be made to accommodate every guest in attendance in the suite on those nights. There will be a waiver that all guests will have to sign before they enter the suite. We will also have a doctor from Children
