I am participating in an allergy walk here in Michigan this month. While poking around the FAAN website I found that Girl Scouts offers a very neat patch to earn by learning about food allergies. I was disappointed to find nothing about BSA. So, I emailed FAAN asking why BSA doesn't have the same patch earning opp. They emailed me back saying BSA has turned them down twice in the last seven years. When I read that, I was sad and kinda mad. Due to the fact that my two sons spent 3 days at day camp this summer and I pretty much had to educate everyone at the camp that we came into contact with about how food allergies can be life threatening. And, of course, we were eating lunch there every day and most kids had pb&j. It was irritating, but I dealt with it. I stayed everyday the whole day so he/they could have fun and be safe. My blood pressure is rising just typing this. If any of you reading this has a boy in BSA please write a note to them pleading for them to incorporate this. I just sent my today. If there's enough of us, maybe they will listen. thanks!

Did FAAN tell you the reason the BSA wouldn't offer a patch and include food allergy as part of their learning program? My son is in cub scouts now for the 2nd year. I was wondering about this too and had planned to inquire further once I heard about the GS.

At your Day Camp, was it just your pack or other packs there too? My husband always requests/reminds that any pack event be nut-free. They have always been happy to comply. Maybe you could do the same, or have you asked already?
