Ashdon Farms Recalls Some Chocolate Covered Candy Products Containing Peanuts

Waukesha WI, November 19, 2002 - Ashdon Farms, Waukesha, WI is recalling 12 oz cans of Girl Scout Chocolate Covered Raisins and 7 oz bags of Ashdon Farms Chocolate Covered Raisins because some packages may contain a mixture of chocolate covered peanuts and chocolate covered raisins. People who have allergies to peanuts could run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.

The two recalled products were distributed nationwide through direct sales by Girl Scouts, schools and similar fundraising activities.

The 12 oz Girl Scout Chocolate Covered Raisins are marked with the code date 2283A10 on the bottom of the can. The 7 oz Ashdon Farms Chocolate Covered Raisins are marked with the code date 2305A6.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.

"We very much regret any concern this news causes to our customers and distributors and will do everything possible to assist them in quickly identifying and exchanging the affected product," said Gordon Liebl, President of Ashdon Farms. Mr. Liebl also noted that both product labels bear an allergen advisory statement, "Processed on Shared Equipment with Peanut and Nut Containing Products."

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a packaging error from the raw material supplier had resulted in small quantities of chocolate covered peanuts being mixed with chocolate covered raisins.

Consumers who purchased the product should contact the organization from which they purchased the product for replacement. Consumers with questions may contact Ashdon Farms at 262-832-8201.
