Which GM cereals have you safely eaten. I am particularly curious about the kind with Cinnamon Toast Squares. I tend to trust GM labels, but always like to hear from someone who has tried it. My son is peanut, pistachio, cashew, sesame, sunflower allergic.

We have tried Cheerios, apple cinnamon cheerios, and rice chex w/o a problem.

We use all the chex, mostly the higher fiber ones(multi bran and whole wheat), and I recently bought a box of the cinnamon toast crunch. Dd has had it a few times as a snack and no troubles. I have not used much of it though. I generally mix it into other things, like a cereal trail mix of sorts!

I have been wondering about branching out. The above and Cheerios are our regulars. becca

We eat just about every kind of GM cereals that don't say some type of nut or peanut. Always in the cabinet are Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs. We also eat on a regular basis Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Wheat Chex, Rice Chex, Corn Check, Multi-grain Chex, Trix, Total Raisin Bran...just to name a few I can think of! Current craze is "Green Slime."

I trust GM labeling and have never had a problem. I'm leary of Post (Kraft) and limit it to just the Oreo's cereal--only because my son loves it, has no reaction to it, and I'm a softy. I do not trust Kellogg's labeling so stay away from their products. We also eat Quaker bag cereals--Cocoa Blasts, Rice Puffs, Wheat Puffs, Fruity-O.

[son 4 1/2 years--anaphylatic reaction without ingestion to peanut @ 22 months; contact allergic to peanut, sesame seed, & chickpea; possible airborn reaction to peanut if in closed environment; CAP RAST also shows allergy to almonds, Brazil nuts, hazelnuts (avoiding all tree nuts) but no known reaction to tree nuts]

I have always steered clear of Cocoa Puffs, since they also make Reese's Puffs. But I think we will try them.

My dd hasn't had a reaction to cereal. We regularly eat Kellogg's(although I'm not sure we'll continue after reading some things on this board), Quaker bag cereal, Malt-o-meal bag cereal, and have had safeway and great value without incident. For those of you looking for "rice krispies" I reccomend checking out the Malt-o-Meal brand in the bag.

My son loves Cookie Crisp. He like Lucky Charms but all he does is eat the marshmallows and not the cereal so I don't buy that anymore.

Susan,
All kinds of Cheerios? I'm new to this and trying to determine if it is okay for my 23 mo old PA dd to eat Honey Nut. It only says almond on the box. And she's not allergic to them.

Or is there a cross contamination risk since the almonds could have been mfgd on a line with traces of peanut?

She eats Cinammon Toast squares w/o a problem and loves them! ALso Kix hasn't been a problem and great for snacking.

No, we don't give Andre the Honey Nut cheerios because we are avoiding all nut exposure at this point. He has tested negative for tree nut allergy, but our allergist recommended he have no nut exposure at all until he is at least four (which will be in September). We're in no hurry!

Thanks Susan.

I called GM today about Honey Nut Cheerios to inquire about the manufacturer that the Almonds are supplied from. She said that they get allergen information from their suppliers. So it would be labeled on the Cheerio box if there was a risk of cross contaminiation with peanuts at the plant they received the almonds from. Just an fyi as everyone determines their own comfort zone.

Drive Me Nutty...Be aware that once you feed her almonds, you sensitize her to them so she may have tested negative to them but then the second time she eats them she could be allergic. This is what happened to my son. He tested negative to almonds, I fed him almonds, then he tested positive. The allergist told me it is not a coincidence.

I guess because the GM Lucky Charms does not have a label on it, that it is safe for those with dairy and nut allergies, right?

Thanks Heather2. I had not thought of that. She had them w/o reaction before we knew about her PA so I've felt they were safe. Good point though.

Do any of you also use the Gneral Mills Cereal Bars, "milk and cereal" I think they are? There are honet nut cheerio ones, but there are honey hut cheerios and we use other GM cereals. I sometimes bring a fun snack for vacation, and at least there might be some redeeming quality of some kind under all that sugar! becca

My toddler loves the Cinnamon Toast crunch milk & cereal bar. We're going to expand to the Special K and others soon.

becca...every package of GM cereal bars I've picked up (4, I believe) say "almond." Since we avoid an tree nuts, I'm not comfortable with them.

I use to buy Nabisco--they made a fruit-type bar. I can no longer find them (about a year now) and haven't bothered to call them to see why they're not on the shelves any more.

Thanks, Donni. I actually clipped a coupon, but had not looked at packages yet. I know we did buy the chex one a loooonnnng time ago. Might have been before the allergy. If it was after the allergy, I would not have purchased one with any nut warning on it. However, I was just generally less saavy about manufacturinf back then and trusted labelling most of the time. I am shopping today, and will check the labels. becca

After eating Golden Graham Cereal by General Mills this morning my son's been itching his right eye and now has some swelling. I gave him a dose of benadryl.

I only buy cereal from General Mills and have never had any problems before has anyone had any problems reacting to Golden Grahams? It is the only thing that he has eaten so far today and had nothing different yesterday.

Is there honey in this cereal? Some are allergic to honey...a grain allergy developing?

Re-raising because....

I had a bowl of Apple Cinnamon Cheerios recently and got violently ill immediately after. Hmm.. Is it only the honey nut ones that have almond meal in them?

karenh--sorry to hear you got sick from the cheerios. it would definitely make me suspicious. do you have any sort of berry allergy? i've been frustrated with cheerios because they have a mixed berry variety and cannot guarantee that the plain cheerios are strawberry residue-free. being strawberry allergic, i avoid them now entirely.

We do not purchase the honey nut cheerios or the team cheerios. The team cheerios had a warning on the label the last time I checked (about a year ago)

I have never heard of Team Cheerios. Is that only in the USA? I checked the box of the Apple cinnamon, and there was no nut warning at all, nor on the box of frosted ones (well, a may contain, but not a definite "this item contains almonds").

I have Oral allergy syndrome, and apples is one of the biggest culprits. Do you guys think it could progress to the point where even apple cinnamon cheerios would do it?
