Does anyone out there have any experience with actually taking a child someplace where there are peanuts? Is it absolutely crazy to think about protecting her with say, cotton or latex gloves, and long sleeves and pants so that she may be able to go enjoy an amusement park? of course it's not ideal, but once she gets to the point where she knows to keep her hands out of her mouth, doesn't it seem reasonable to think we can keep her safe with clothing and gloves so that she would be able to have a little amusement park fun? on that note, does anyone have any experience or know if an anaphylactic reaction can occur even if the peanut is not ingested and only touches the skin?

My son is 4 1/2 and has a PA. We really try to live a normal life as far as he is concerned! We have taken him to an Angels baseball game and did not have a problem. We were very nervous when we went, but he ate some nachos and never had a problem with the peanuts that they were selling in the stands. We also go to Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland and all the water parks and have never had a problem!

It is a daily chore to teach them about keeping their hands out of there mouth and I carry antibacterial hand wipes everywhere I go!

Hope this helps!

I think they might; I use them when I don't have time to go find a sink to wash my hands. But they probably don't work as well as actually washing your hands...

I definitely think you need to enjoy life and still be careful. My allergist says he will not have an anaphylactic reaction unless he ingests food. and if he does then you have the epi pen to use quickly and get to ER.
