My daughter is 3 years old and was accepted through open enrollment into a public preschool. Once I told them she had a peanut allergy the brakes were put on. I got a call today saying they would not be able to accomodate her need. Does that sound right? I was told he acceptance was through open enrollment and not her assigned school district so they did not have to accomodate. She told me to look into our school district. I feel so bad for my little girl. She was so excited to go to school.

This is flat-out discrimination based on hidden medical disablity and absolutely illegal.

Assuming you are in USA, your public school district needs to be educated about your child's legally protected rights.

See the thread about 504.

Get the school district to put their denial of enrollment in writing.

Then file a formal complaint with OCR (Office of Civil Rights).

That's really so unfair, just because the child has a peanut allergy it does not mean that she is not entitled to become a part of the school. I really wish incident like this does not happen. Donna is right your child do have her rights. And you are entitled to file complaint.
