I have learned to enjoy the art of cake decorating. Something I had never thought I would be doing prior to PA. I have a recipe that uses a great deal of Crisco. It is good for the consistency necessary for cake decorating, however the jury is out on the flavor. Does anyone have a yummy frosting recipe for cake decorating?

My dd is allergic to cottonseed oil and it is in ALL the processed icings because it helps it stand up so well, hth
I have one for you to try. It is very yummy, we used it when we decorated Christmas cookies with our PA son.
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup margarine
6 cups Powdered sugar
2 Tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream shortening and margarine. Add sugar, milk and vanilla. Blend until well mixed. Blend addition minute or so until creamy.
Yields enough frosting for a 9x13 cake

Beyondapeanut-I agree-crisco frosting can be a bit icky. Unfortunately to get that decorator stiffness you need something like crisco to keep it stiff.
Have you tried buttercream icing or fondant? Buttercream also uses crisco-but the butter and sugar usually take over in flavor.
Here's a website that I've used.

There are also dry packages you can buy in the cake aisle of party and craft stores for buttercream frosting..and I think they sell tubs too..but I don't know about their manufacturing practices.
