I saw Create-A-Treat (Canadian brand) frosted cookies in our local (US) Shop Rite. There was an icon with a crossed-out peanut and the word "nut-free".
Does this symbol with a crossed-out peanut and the word "nut-free" have a standard specific meaning on Canadian products to which it is applied? I see that there are no peanut or tree nut ingredients listed for this Create-A-Treat product, but does the symbol also mean that there is no risk of cross-contact with peanut or tree nut ingredients in processing? That it is a peanut/nut-free facility? Does it refer to both peanuts and tree nuts?
Of course, I have contacted the manufacturer, but I am wondering if this is a symbol with a standard meaning for Canadian products, so a contact doesn't always need to be made.
