We recently checked out Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. Their website states that if "peanut", the allergen, is not listed in their ingredients then that product is safe for anyone with an allergy to that food to eat. We bought several small containers in different flavors to try that did not have any type of peanut ingredient. My daughter has had no problems eating any of the flavors so far. We were so excited as Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavors have been wonderful.
I would like to know if it is ok because they clean in between flavors (which is my guess - therefore they feel it is ok) or if any are made on dedicated lines. I don't buy stuff made on the same lines, so this is an important distinction for us. And always confusing to get a clear answer I find.
4 yr. old son - severe peanut allergy and mild egg
From what I just read on their web page, Ben & Jerry's has great intentions, but they missed the boat. They do not have dedicated lines (based on what I read on their website). They seem to really want for PA people to feel safe with them, but the reality is they aren't safe. They even talked about their ice cream shops and welcome those with allergies to come and talk with the workers there. They say to check ingredients, watch them clean the scoopers etc. Here's the problem....how can you guarantee me that before I walked in there wasn't a "contaminated" scooper in that ice cream? I love that they are trying, but I still won't feed my child store bought ice cream. :(
