Ok, my son has eaten Tyson nuggets for a while now with no problems. Last night I gave him a cut off my husbands baked chicken and an hour later he broke out in hives on his face. I called Tyson this morning and asked because the ingredients on the frozen chicken...which I thought would not be an issue were chicken broth, sea salt, and natural flavoring. I am curious if anyone else has had that happening. Maybe he is allergic to sea salt....who knows. I am so confused.

Hi Holly, sometimes our kids have reactions and we can never trace to what it is.

That being said-does your son have a sesame allergy? Sesame is often an ingredient in breadcrumbs but is not in the top 8 allergens listed. Also, sesame can be part of natural flavoring.

My thought is he had a reaction to the natural flavoring which could be 1 of many things. Was Tyson able to tell you what was in it?

It's also possible that it was a cross contamination issue depending on what is also made in the plant or on that line.

If you really want to get to the bottom of it, I'd call Tyson again and ask them what else is made in that facility and on that line.

But again-you might not get to the bottom of it. If you can't get good answers from Tyson, you might want to consider staying away from that chicken.

Hope that helps!
Ruth

This sounds familiar! Isn't that nerve-wracking? Don't know about sea salt allergy...

This has happened to us with Bell & Evans Chicken nuggets and also Gortons fish sticks. No peanuts in either facility. I could never figure it out! My solution: just avoid it! I'd mark Tyson's off your safe list. We switched to Ian's Natural chicken nuggets and fish sticks and have had no more hives. Worth a try!

Well, thank you both for your comments. It's so scary!! My son's school ended up calling shortly after I posted yesterday and he was covered in hives again. We went straight to the doctors office and are looking into many things before blood work is done again next week. I also had purchased, but didn't think until I started writing everything down last night Tangy Sunny D. He has never had the "tangy" kind before and almost instantly this morning his mouth was covered. After reviewing the Sunny D smooth which he has had before no problems, there is no difference in the ingredients VERY ODD since it taste different. I am giong to call shortly to see if the company can shed any light. Thanks again!

Just an update....Still no more reactions.....however we were at the allergist office yesterday and the doctor said there was another child around the same time we were there last who had the same problem with Tangy Sunny D. I think it will be one of those things we never figure out....but a heads up to others. No Tangy Sunny D for us.
