pablondie--I want to say there has been a post in the last few months on this.

When you say peanut and tree nut free--do you mean free of peanut and tree nut oils, or not made in a facility with, etc.?

I personally treat skin care products the same as food products. I read the labels, I call companies, and I research ingredients.

I would stick to brands that have minimal ingredients.

Contacted the FDA when I came across a product (cannot remember the name)that was advertised in a newspaper and it contained nuts of various sorts. The FDA person informed me that there was nothing they could do. She was extremely annoyed at my questions and I am convinced it is because she had little if any information on cosmetic products and nut allergy reactions. Play it safe and contact the company directly. Most companies are very helpful and will inform you of the presence of anything they consider to be allergy causing.

I think www.upurea.com may sell some cosmetics that are nut free. I think I recall seeing nut-free symbols. Also vegan symbols. Might be worth a peek!

Hmm. That's odd. I checked again, and it took me a while, but I just found one with sweet almond oil. That is NOT nut-free! You are 100% right, PABlondie! I shudder to think what would happen if a person highly allergic to almonds used that product!!! YIPES!

Someone should email Upurea because that makes no sense. Actually, I'll email them too. In fact, this might be good to highlight on Food Allergy Buzz...

Good catch, PABlondie. I hadn't stumbled upon a product with nut oil yet. I had seen some with coconut but that doesn't count.

Well, scratch Upurea off the list for nut-free cosmetics. We obviously can't trust anything there with that kind of error.

There was an instance in a kids hair chain (Snippets) where the shampoo contained nut oil and the child had a reaction. It was on the label.

Always read labels.

I'll have to look into the labeling laws on cosmetics.

I called Upurea today and spoke to a customer service person who directed me to makeup and then a pull down menu that said "interests". When you click on interest, select nut free from the list and all of the makeup that is nut free will pop up. He added that they are free from nut oils as well as shea butter. He continued that they will be adding gluten free products to the web site as well. The entire site is not nut free but select products that are sold on the Upurea website are. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Loreal labels for any type of peanut or tree nut derivative. It would be listed in the ingredients. Same with Pantene hair products. Neutrogena is very helpful when I call they are always able to tell me if there are any nut derivatives in their products.

I've also just learned that E.L.F. Products are free from nuts and dairy. They have their ingredients listed on their site. But they told me that they can not guarantee anything due to potential cross contam from their sources.

I Checked ELF and they Do have Nuts in there products So i dont think its very safe

I am new to this board and am curious are there makeups out there with peanuts in them? I know about Almond oils but curious about peanut. My daughter is pn allergic and loves playing with makeup. I do read labels and actually had an issue with Clinique a few months ago...new product for lips for me...and I read the container and there was something about nuts in the list and I decided not to get it seeing it was for my lips..the woman behind the counter told me to just not kiss my daughter!!!!!! I called management on her...
Any way I am interested to know more info on this....

Oil of Olay has products which contain peanut oil. I have also heard over the years about other cosmetic products containing peanut oil. Of course you know about Almond Oil and then there's Shea Nut oil. Nut oils are used as emulsifiers in fragrances, flavorings (in food and medicine), soaps, lotions, cosmetics, craft supplies, paints, pharmaceuticals, etc., as well as in the fragrances in scented lotions, soaps, etc.

Anything I've ever looked at from Bare Escentuals has been nut free. However, I haven't checked ingredients on everything, just the products I use (primer, foundation, powder, eyeshadow).
