Does anyone know which pet foods contain peanuts? I fed my dogs and broke out in a rash where my face touched the edge of the bag! (I get the giant bags and had to reach way down to the bottom.) No peanut products are listed in the ingredients, so...

I called Science Diet about a year ago and they had no peanut, nuts or any type of nut by product in them. We have not had any issues. It is expensive and we have often talked about buying at cheaper food but we know it safe so we are sticking to it.

We use Pro Pac (people always ask, Pro Plan? No, it's called Pro Pac). I contacted the company some time ago to inquire whether there are any peanut products used, and was assured there is not. We have little dogs that are always in my toddler's face, never any issues. (In fact, as a younger toddler, he would eat pieces of it, before it was diagnosed, and no reaction.) We also use Milk Bones without a problem.

Ashley and Cats4me - Do you know which dog foods caused the reactions? It would be good to know. Would be nice if pet foods would label, as I've heard several stories of reactions as a result of contact with dogs.

I do not remember :( sorry, it's been a couple of years...
It was Ol' Roy dog food from Wal-Mart. Being a cheaper brand, I would imagine it contains cheaper ingredients like peanut flour or something...
This is the first time I bought this brand, just so I could safe a couple of dollars. (Poor dogs!)

Science Diet used to have peanut shells in it. It was a cheap filler. Maybe Ole Roy does the same? Anyway that is a very low quality food-I wouldn't feed it to my dog. We use Diamond Naturals (which is probably the lowest of the premium brands but the best we can find locally). Foods I have called or emailed about and found to be safe:
Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul (this is what our cat eats)
Diamond Naturals
Premium Edge
California Natural
Natural Balance
I never checked on brands like Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, etc.

May 08 I called Science Diet and was told they removed the peanut shells in October 07. May 08 was the last time I checked on it.

Yes they did remove the peanut shells. However it's still a poor quality food. :(

You know, my daughter is allergic to dogs, but a couple of times my parents' dog licked her and the immediate massive hives she got really made me think that it was something that the dog had eaten. She never broke out really (at that point) from petting to dog or being in their house. I read all the dog ingredients and didn't see anything, but I'm wondering under what weird names (like "Lupin flour) that peanut-derived products can be listed as in PET food. Hmmm...food for thought, - I just wanted to let you know that you're not crazy. :P
