I was just wondering what brands you use as far as sauces...BBQ....marinades. My husband loves adding FLAVOR to his food, however I am a very plain eater. Our son has PA and I want to have something SAFE as an option to him.

Thanks!

Don't trust commercial food. Mix up your own BBQ sauce. Get your husband to become a chef and mix up the sauces he uses from scratch. If your child has a fatal allergy, I wouldn't take any chances. I have read posts of mothers who were in tears because the manufacturer changed the product that they always used safely.

You can order specialty peanut-free products from peanutfreeplanet.com if you must use commercially prepared products.

hollya...depending what type of allergies you are dealing with you may be able to find a BBQ Sauce that you are comfortable with. We use Masterpiece BBQ Sauce and it has been a safe option for our family for years. However, you should read labels and then call the manufacturer to make sure there is no x contamination before you give it to your son.

(I don't post often on this site because it is full of misinformation from people like the above poster...there is plenty of commercial food that is safe for PA.)

Notnutty2, thanks so much. I will check Masterpiece out and give them a call. I don't even know if my 3 year old would like BBQ sauce, but I want him to have a safe option.
Thanks again!

Masterpiece has been fine for us, too! Good luck!

I wrote a post about BBQ sauce last year which you may find helpful: http://www.foodallergybuzz.com/2008/06/time-to-barbeque.html

Annie's seemed the safest to me. Annie's Naturals has barbecue sauce made in a peanut-free facility. You have to look at the lot number to see if there is a "W". The "W" stands for West Coast, where their peanut-free facility is. I'd recommend calling their customer service number to confirm that this is still the case.

Hope this info is helpful!

Take care,

We use Famous Dave's BBQ sauce. No problems so far.

Hi Gale!

How are you?

I think you recommended Dave's to me a while ago, and I emailed them about a year ago and never got clear info about cross-contamination. Do you have any emails from them? I am always looking for a new BBQ sauce. Annie's okay but a bit watery. Thanks for any additional info you might have. :)

I don't think I have an email-I'm pretty sure I called them about it. On their website there is a list of ingredients of restaurant items. They use the same sauces at the restaurant and they do label for may contains on other things and they label with allergens at the bottom of the ingredients. On the restaurant info, the corn muffins say 'may contain peanuts or tree nuts' so I believe they do label well.

I checked my old emails, and here's what I received. I remembered I did not get answers to all of my questions--I never did receive the info from them on the foodservice sauce, but this info may be helpful since most people would be buying retail. (Of course, it's best to double-check with them to make sure nothing's changed!)

Hi Jennifer

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I was out a lot last week and I
wanted to reply to you myself. I have 2 kids with allergies and Tree Nuts
and Peanuts are among them. I can assure you that those ingredients are not
found in the retail BBQ Sauce production plant. I can double check the
foodservice side, but the last time I checked the plant didn't have any as
well.

We have labeled our product very carefully and are trying to actually get
some of the allergens, such as dairy, out of the three sauces that have
dairy. That change should happen soon.

As a consumer I'm interested to find out more about your survey and where I
could take a look at it, let me know if it is online.

Thanks for your interest in Famous Dave's!

Mike

There are no Tree Nuts or Peanuts in the facility that produces the retail
BBQ Sauce. Other allergens are present such as Wheat, Soy and Dairy."

Hi,

I just posted and introduced myself. I am a Team Leader for Wildtree products. I found Wildtree because I needed food with no MSG for severe migraines. However, all our food is PEANUT-FREE! Our founder and CEO cannot come in contact with peanuts. We were using tree nuts in our Basil Pesto, but have stopped using them so that we could be nut free.

We have quite a few BBQ sauces and marinades along with many seasoning for meats that are all peanut free.

Feel free to check out my website at www.reneel.mywildtree.com If you have any questions, you can email me at renee.lechko@gmail.com

I am not doing this for the business, but to make you aware of a great source of peanut free products. I know how hard it can be. My daughter had food allergies when she was younger.

Good luck to all
