I am 31 and just recently had a RAST IgE test done.. All of my results seemed accurate- as the items I knew I couldn't have came up high (level 3 or higher)-almonds, apples, pears, plums, cherries, carrots, etc. All the items that came up were items that I always have physical reactions to (hives, swollen lips, swollen tongue, tightening throat, wheezing etc) I carry an epi pen for these.
However I did come up with a level 3 for peanuts. Generally I do not have any reactions (that I can recall) to peanuts. However, I did have a reaction (itchy mouth/swollen tongue) to peanut sauce used on a meal. (Now I avoid the peanut sauce meals).. Now I am wondering if I should avoid things like peanuts/peanut butter or just continue to eat them as I haven't reacted to them.. Not sure if it's a false positive or not? :)
What is your opinion? What would you do? :)

I once had a false negative for my egg allergy, which gave me the hope of eating an omelette.

My allergist was doubtful and asked if I was taking seasonal allergy medication, which I was (Reactine). He asked me to stop using it for 4 weeks and come back for a new test.

Sure enough, the allergy reappeared and my omelette dreams disappeared.

My peanut/nut allergies were unaffected and were the same each times. Interestingly, so were my multiple pollen/dust allergies. The only flawed result was egg white.

I would suggest rescheduling with your doctor for another test and mention any medication you're using to make sure it's not interfering and in the meantime, stay away from peanuts.
