I spoke to the folks at the West Lynn Creamery in Lynn, MA regarding their chocolate milk and soft serve chocolate and vanilla ice creams. They assured me that these products are safe for folks with nut/peanut allergies. The cocoa in the chocolate flavoring comes from a supplier who assures West Lynn Creamery that it is allergen free for nut/peanut allergic folks. My understanding is that the cocoa is made on a shared equipment with other nut/peanut free items. (but a dedicated line in that no nut/peanut products are in direct contact with that equipment. However, he did not have the info available to confirm that it was in a nut/peanut free facility.
He gets the cocoa from a different supplier for each of 4 different products and has been assured by these suppliers that the cocoa is "safe". The West Lynn rep. said that the suppliers know they will be in serious trouble with his company as well as the consumer, if the product is not actually allergen free.
I would feel better if he would have been inclined to check it out more specifically with the suppliers, but he felt confident that the products are safe.
The chocolate milk is under "Garelick" label and is found in many convenience stores and grocery stores in Boston area.
The soft serve ice cream can be found at the New England Aquarium cafe/snack bar in Boston.
The machine is in a separate area from the toppings. The toppings are jimmies, crushed oreos, and M&M's.
The only flavors they ever put in the machine are West Lynn Creamery soft serve vanilla and chocolate. The soft serve comes in a closed container and is emptied directly into the machine. Nothing is added.

Wow, Kstreeter, your info always catches my eye. You are very active invstigating! I really try to limit sweets(my dd does not eat much real food as it is), so I just do not check many, but it is always good to know what treats are okay. As it turns out, we are members at the aquarium and should go more often. Now I have another reason. I can get my little cutie an ice cream too! Thanks again for sharing all the work you do. I think I will call them to see where else they sell their soft serve. Becca
