Last Wed my 6yr old had an eye appt(he has a cross eye that goes *dark* that we are trying ti figure out why...) anyways, while we were awaiting his eyes to dilate, we walked up to the 4th floor and spoke with the allergist(he had a letter for me to give the school, so I asked if we could do a caprast for sesame(he forgot to order it a couple weeks ago) as well as green beans and some other legumes.....so we headed to the lab after the eye appt was over.

It just dawned on me Friday night that I totally forgot to stop his Zyrtec before the blood draw(since I wasn't expecting to do it)....will it mess up the results now?? My poor son, I told him this would be the last blood draw for a few years, we just needed to find out about some beans and the sesame. I hope it doesn't mess up the results, I'll kick myself if it does(so will my son!!!) Thanks

Chanda,

Antihistamines will effect the SPT, but are fine for bloodwork. They work on histamine, not IgE (which the ICAP or RAST measures).

I've just seen my allergist following a reaction where I was given steroids, following my own Benadryl dosing. He did tell me to wait a while after tapering the steroids before I have the labs drawn.

Take care,
Daisy

So, would Nasonex affect a blood test for allergens?
