I see a lot of people here trust Betty Crocker and use BC cake mixes and frosting. Is that because you are comfortable with their cleaning process, labeling, or just because they are GM? I notice their labeling (US) doesn't say "made on shared equipment" or "made in a facility that processes", yet they have pecan frosting, etc.
I had honestly never called a manufacturer myself, until I read here that a couple of people had problems with Duncan Hines. I have used DH mixes and frosting for the past four years for my PA son, with no problems ever. They do label "contains wheat" or "contains milk" so I figured they were OK wrt labeling. But after reading the posts here, I called them and they admitted that their pb mix (for cookies) is made on the same equipment as everything else, and said they couldn't say the cake mix wouldn't be cross contaminated. I feel kind of betrayed, lol. I hate to switch brands because we've never had any problem, and a new brand always makes me nervous, but now I have to wonder if we were just *lucky*.
I did call BC; they didn't claim to have dedicated lines (didn't really get a straight answer about that), but said strongly that if there was any potential for cross contamination they would label for it; that they are extremely allergy aware and that they work with FAAN. I definitely felt more confident with that call than with DH, where they basically said don't trust any of their products
HI
I have called Wilton's a few times in the past. I am learning to make and decorate cakes. After the calls, I promptly returned all of the icing colors and other edible Wilton products. I understood from my conversations with them that the products were not at all safe for someone with PA. I understood that there were peanuts on numerous lines and that nothing is segregated or covered for that matter. It was a bummer to return these icing paste as not many other companies make them.
I would call them and ask. One of the representatives told me that if it were her kid she would not use the stuff.
HTH and if you do call please post their response....
thanks
Hi
I read on one of the posts that the pecan flavored frosting does not actually contain pecan. It is an artificial flavoring. I have never used it out of pure principal. I have no need for any nut taste or product but I do trust Betty Crocker labelling. I do not trust Pilsbury. The ironic thing about that is that they are both owned by General Mills. Had a bad experience with Pillsbury and decided to just stick with what I know which is Betty Crocker. Hope this helps.

I don't use Pillsbury because I didn't trust their labelling when our pa first started.
Betty Crocker--I trusted the labelling!! and have just stayed with them ever since.
I have also used Wiltons (which I love) but not as accessible as Betty Crocker.
I used to call manufacturers back in the day. However, labelling has dramatically improved 100% and I am completely satisfied with whatever the label reads. I no longer call manufacturers.
I am also not concerned that they have another product that has nuts. However, this is my comfort zone and over the years my comfort zone is getting more lax because I am very aware of his peanut allergy.
Hope this helps
